Who has done a valve adjustment?
Who here has done a valve adjustment?, i have 88k on my b16a2 and i don't think the valve lash has ever been adjusted. So i want to adjust them but im not sure if i can do it correctly. Is it very difficult? Is there any write ups on doing it?

I cant tell whats "normal" ticking you know what i mean? I think all engines tick alittle and make noise. Im just not sure if its valves ticking or not??

Here's a link to a how-to, but you may also want to pick up an inexpensive Haynes or Chilton manual at your local auto parts store to walk you through it. </TD></TR></TABLE>
I have a Haynes but i was reading that link and i understand everything but the part where you put the feeler gauge between the lobe and lifter. I cant see from those pics what he is doing? Also i would be afraid that i wouldn't snug the bolts up and they would loosen, shouldn't you torque them to a certain spec?

It's no biggee tightening the lock nut. Just torque it down to spec after you've snugged it by hand while holding the adj screw in place. After you torque it re-check the clearance. It's not hard, my wife helps me do it.

by your second lash adjustment you should be able to do all 16 in about 30 minutes or less.
Pull the valve cover and lift up on your rocker arms. You will see which ones are loose and which ones are snug.
When you pull up on a loose one, stick a feeler guage where they are separated. Try it and you will see what I mean.
Very easy. I set my exhaust on the middle specs and the intake on the tight side.

Do my valves sound a bit loud? This is usually when weather is cold outside around 50ish.. I dont think Ive heard it much now that it warmed up but is it normal ever at all?

Re: Sounds ok to me (sql_civic)
If you know someone who has done one before have them help you..just so you fully understand the process. The internet cant tell you if you screwed something up, a mechanic can. Then you'll be set for whenever else you want to do one.

You put the feeler between the lobe and lifter correct? So which lobe do you use? their are 3.

there are only 2 lobe you do this with. the right and the left. ignore the lobe in the middle.

correct. it's impossible to valve adjust the VTEC lobe
damn you guys lost me when you were saying adjust it at the lobe and lifter. then I remembered I have a y8 and you guys and on your B series so i do it where the valve and the lifter meet.
I think getting the TDC for each cylinder is the hardest part of a valve adjustment

Re: Sounds ok to me (Yellowone)
valve tap is NOT the only indication to adjust valves. The valve cans recess into the seat slightly, closing the valve lash, and can cause major performance issues.
Have it done by someone who knows what they're doing....but if you do it yourself, remember Too loose is better than too tight. It's all about feel.
