I never noticed the noise, until yesterday. (a day after ~700mi trip on Tuesday).

Now, it seems that there is a whistling noise coming from the engine bay. It's not from the tranny, 'cuz it still makes the noise when the gears are in neutral. The noise is prominently occuring at 2,000-3,000. It does occur at higher RPM band, but the road noise mutes it.

Is this a common noise associated with sohc vtec motor? I almost want to say it sounds kinda similar to a super-charger whine... but I'm completely <u>stock</u>. Is my timing belt or other auxillary belt going bad?

Any comments or suggestions on what to look for? TIA.


p.s. what's the engine code for '92 Si motor? d16y7? or d16z6?

first off, if you have a 92 si hatchback, your engine code is d16z6, same engine in 92-95 si and ex. y7 is is in a dx/lx 96-00.

with the whistle, would you happen to have an intake, they tend to make whistling noises at idle and such.

My car is completely stock. The only thing that is not stock is the CD player.

It happens in all gears. 1-5, but it's hard to hear the noise when it's in 4th or 5th gear as the road noise covers the whistling noise.

Mine does this as well, but didn't start until recently. I am currently looking into it, back it isn't likely I will get to far with work. Doesn't seem to be affecting anythng at the moment it's just a little annoying.
