Helms manual says it's at the front side, but i can't find it maybe i'm not looking hard enough, can somebody take a pic and point it out?

theres one on the lower inside of the radiator looks kinda like a wing nut...and there is an air bleeder on the thermostat housing..12mm bolt with a hole in the middle of it

yeah the one on the radiator drains the radiator and the other one you pointed out is the air bleeder for the coolant. I need to find where the ones on the engine block are. I think there are two drain plugs for the coolant.

There is a coolant drain on the block - located on the exhaust side of the engine. It's located down below and between the two exhaust ports (from the left) and is the only big bolt with big washer in this picture:

where is the other drain plug? do i have to drain from both drain plugs for this bish?

Depends on what you are doing. Are you flushing, taking head off, or what?


The other drain is located on the bottom of the radiator, it will be a white plastic wing-nut looking deal located on directly on the bottom radiator hose neck.

i'm flushing the coolant system so i can replace the radiator, no i'm not taking the engine apart.

so would i need to get to the 2nd drain plug on the engine block? the drain thing you're talking about on the radiator is the drain fitting i want to find the other drain on the engine block.

oh and how do i drain this without making a mess? can i just drain it from the bottom of the radiator or i won't get all of the coolant in the engine?

just drain from the radiator. its so much easier, and you take take the nut off by hand.

if you're taking the radiator out, shouldnt you drain the coolant in the RADIATOR?

if your just replacing your coolant...just take off the "white" plastic wing nut...on the civic it on the bottom left (same side as where the radiator cap is at) of the radiator.... you cant miss it man...it prolly the only think that is the color white on there...good luck

If you use the lower drain on the radiator, it will be enough for you to remove it - no need to remove the block plug.

I use a dedicated catch can for this, you can get them at Autozone etc. Place directly underneath the drain plug and slowly turn the plug until the coolant starts to flow. Don't pull this plug all the way initially out or you'll have a mess. Also, remove the top radiator cap - it'll let it drain more freely/faster/completely.

ok i've installed the new aluminum radiator. now i have to refill the system.

the next step "Place the heather temperature control in the maximum heat position"

i think these clamps are still good. what do you guys think, get new clamps?

A little nasty, but yeah they should work. If you have a leak, get new ones.

if i have to replace them then i have to drain and refill the system again, right?

maybe it's wise if i just get new ones.

True dat for the lower hose clamps.

If it were me, I'd use the best looking one on the bottom and the others on top. Wouldn't have to drain entire system for the top ones, but it might be a little messy.

Heck, they're cheap enough. Get new.

that's what i did for the bolts to screw the fan on. the 2 rusty ones i put at the top to screw in the fan to the radiator and the better looking 2 i screw in for the bottom holes to connect the fan to the radiator.


edit; i'm hungry now, i'll get new clamps after.

the thermostat says it's running a tab bit less than half way mark. is this ok, or is this running a little hot?

thats normal temp for a civic

i took off the radiator cap and started the engine and let it run until the thermostat indicated normal operating temperature (below half). i let it idle til then and the fan is still not spinning.

how come the fan is not spinning?

and all this time ive just been letting it spill onto the floor cause i couldnt figure out how to drain from the block.......... thanks.
