Wheel Recommendation (newbie)
Hi - been a lurker here from my NSX affiliation, but new to Civic scene - my kid daughter just got a 97 Civic coupe - She has $500 saved of her own money & wants some wheels to show off her car. What can she get for that? (That's a lot of money for 16 yr old, so give her a break! She's worked/saved hard for this) She's not into black - prefer bright/shiney, but maybe combo, polished lip???
Suggestions? Pics helpful, particularly on her model.
Much appreciated - great forum!
(Just to confirm - 97 Civic, 4 x 100 right? - 15's or 16's be best?)

Thanks for super quick reply - yes, agreed re beauty - I'd like to show her some options regarding what's out there in her price range. Lots of pics on the forum but less detail re prices/sizes.

I have indeed been looking at Rota's - they look like good value so far.
I don't expect tires for that price included of course - I thought maybe Yoko ES-100's though as good i/mediate choice.

Re: Wheel Recommendation (Btown_99Si)
No offense to you or your daughter D'Ecosse, but I'm assuming she isn't going to be racing the car. In that case, wheel weight and size should not matter so much. I'd recommend 16" wheels, purely because they look 100x better on 6th Gen Civics, and most non-forged wheels can be had in that size for $500.
Since the choices are so varied (and there are so many!), show her a Super Street. There are tons of wheel ads, and one can get a pretty good idea of all of the wheel styles out there. Also, http://www.tirerack.com (<--excellent place to purchase from) and http://www.tires.com have an interactive wheel guide, where you can "install" wheels onto a Civic coupe. It's pretty cool to play around with, and is a really good way to get an idea of how the wheels will look.

best idea yet, cause she can lower the car and have some nice bling wheels.

I'd get her some Rotas in 15'' and throw some 195-50-15 or 195-55-15 (if you don't lower the car any or not much at all) Kuhmo Ecsta 711 tires.
The Kuhmo 711 are H-rated, have a nice 320 treadwear and are excellent in the rain.
Your daughter won't need a sticky, less lasting tire such as the Yoko AVS ES100.
Hell if you really search you can find the Rotas in 15'' for under $400.00 and the wholesale price on the tires I mentioned should be like under $40.00.
Here's the tire:
And here's the ratings, pricing, etc:
http://tirerack.com/tires/tire...1=yes
Yeah they are only $36.00 per tire from the Tirerack.com.
So you could easily get the wheels and tires for under $550.00.
If you try to jump to a 16'' wheel/tire combo, you will get WAY more pricey. I have not found a decent tire under $70.00 in a 205/45/16 (the right size for her car) and the wheels themselves will cost more too.
As for lowering the car, expect to pay at least $180.00 for good springs and then at least $150.00-$200.00 for labor from a REPUTABLE shop and then at least $59.00 for a 4-wheel alignment.
If you lower the car too much then you'll need to buy camber kits which will easily run $160.00 for the fronts and then pay around $200.00 for labor to install with an alignment.
I work at a shop and these are all "going rates" so I speak from experience.

i too am running 711s, they are awesome for the street, i have yet to go to the track with them. i expect they won't perform too well at the track, but hell that doesn't matter for her since she will only be using them for street.

Re: Wheel Recommendation (Chris y0!)
Try some SI rims (15s) or some HX rims (14s). The HX rims are light, and I love mine to death! You can PM me for pics!

Re: Wheel Recommendation (D'Ecosse)
Since shes on a budget of $500...I also would like to suggest some 98 - 01 GSR Rims..They can be bought used for 300 - 400 WITH tires so you wont have to worry about tires right away. I would also lower the car a little bit...it just adds some style. If shes really into Rotas, I personally would go with 16", I think they just look a little bit better on the 6th Gen coupes..
Good Luck

She's looking to bling. Check out http://www.wheelmax.com. They sell wheel and tire packages for 16" and 17" rims, including lugs, mounting, and balancing, starting at $600.

Thanks for all responses so far - more pics would be nice so she can get the visuals.
Some quick answers - no tracking, just Bling!bling! factor. (no offense taken either)
$500ish just for wheels is good budget - realize tires will be extra.
The car is red.
Probably won't go with the GSR's, something more noticeably different I think.
