Default Wheel lug nut question!

Last night i finished the front end of my suspension, which is awesome, but anyway, i didnt have a torque wrench and i just wanted to see if everything was ok, so i tightened the nuts down and went out for a ride. About 2miles down the raod and a few turns later, the wheels were almost falling off, and I mean really falling off, i couldn't drive the car, i had tightened the **** out of them to, but they were really loose, so my dad came and picked me up, i tightened them and came home. If it isnt exactly torqued correctly, should the little buggers actually almost come off, i found it hard to believe. have i done something wrong in the suspension or something to cause it to jar the bolts loose, nothing have ever happened like this and it was just kinda weird.
p.s I dont have a torque wrench , i have to borrow my neighbors and hes not home, so that exlpains my lack of intelligence for the most part.

yeah, it depends on your wheels and lugnuts. you cant use stock lugs on aftermarket wheels.
