Help, Bad gas mileage! What's wrong?
I get around 18-20 mpg in a 1998 Civic Ex AUTOMATIC. It has around 98k on it. Only mods are muffler (welded) and Bomz Short Ram Intake. The intake is kind of ghetto rigged, could this be it? It was made for my car, but the Airflow meter isn't plugged in the best. Could that be it?
What the fack I thought civics got good gas mileage, and mine gets worse than most domestics.

A ghetto rigged intake wouldn't have any effect on your gas mileage. What is an airflow meter? Do you mean an Air/fuel ratio gauge? That wouldn't affect anything either.
Are you throwing any codes?
FYI: Please title your threads better. Compare your "What is wrong? I searched" to the other titles here. People need to know what they're trying to help you on before clicking on the thread. You will get more responses with "Help, bad gas mileage."

airflow meter?????? no such thing, Civics are MAP sensored, not MAF'd
and yeah, that would be it... any sensor not plugged in right will affect mileage.
I'm guessing you're talking about the Intake Air Temp Sensor.

ok, yeah, I meant the MAP sensor, what plugs into the intake. I just got it, so I haven't maintained it but change oil. Other owners really didn't do much. I would put the stock airbox in, but it's broken. Ahhhh how much could I get one for?

do you have your car over packed?
what is the condition of your tires?
do you have proper inflation of the tires?
when was the last time you had an alignment?
not having sensors plugged in will waste more gas, but not that signifigant.

it's also NOT the MAP sensor, the MAP sensor is on the intake manifold, not the intake tube. The sensor is the intake air temp sensor. Your car would also not make vaccuum if the MAP sensor was not plugged in right.

I got an extra airbox for $20. Just keep your eyes peeled or scour the junk yards
Do a tune up on your car, spend the $100 for plugs, wires, tranny oil change, dizzy cap and rotor... you should get about 32-35 mpg hwy. I've gotten as high as 45 mpg highway, and as low as 30 mpg city, but mine is a 5 spd DX motor.

Re: Help, Bad gas mileage! What's wrong? (Hazem)
How long have you owned the car ? Has it gone from good to bad quickly ?
18 to 20mpg is the best I get in town with my 97 EX Auto all stock. SUCKS. I get upper 20's on the highway though !
I've replaced the Dist. cap, rotor, plugs, trans fluid flush, cleaned throttlebody, Seafoamed manifold.
Next on my list = adjust valves, new plug wires, O2 sensor. I suspect it's the transmission although mine shifts smoothly with only a slight slip after engaging to DRIVE. Might as well drive an SUV.
