What is a tiebar supposed to do?

What is a tiebar supposed to do?
I understand having a sway bar.
But what does a tie bar do?
It looks like it does nothing...
I mean what are you tieing (sp?) together? Your just linking two small pieces of metal that protrude from the already stiff Frame.

I believe they link to your rear LCA if you are talking about rear tie bar, which helps to minimize body roll in the turns...

any little bit helps...why do people seam weld their unibodys? because they are looking that extra edge in the chassis rigidity area; let the suspension do its werk w/o being skewed by the weak lil civic unibody's inability to hold perfectly rigid in race conditions especially inthat area, its notoriously flimsy, honda puts lower tie bars on some of their models from the factory...

You're thinking of sway/anti-roll bars. Not tie bars. Well...tie bars do link to the inside bolt of the LCA, but they don't affect suspensino travel or body roll at all.

Let me put it this way:
NO amount of chassis stiffness is too much.

Re: What is a tiebar supposed to do? (thinkbrianthink)
yes it stiffens things up and reduces body flex. Think of your car body as a square, [ ] now if you put stress on one side as you so in a turn the square will flex creating this /_/ not that extreme but you get the idea. In worse cases you will get this [_/ so the tie bars basically tie up everthint to keep the flex to a minimum. That is why all the crazy hardcore guys have strut bars up front that tie into 6 places and bars that tie into 6 in the rear. But as for dc sports

as with strut bars and all othet tie bars, you want a one peice design, not somthing that you have to twist into place. The only one i know of is the bennen bar. That thing is super sweet. Later

Here's my 92 Si with a Benen bar...
Looks a fuckload stronger than that shitty DC bar, doesn't it?
The Comptech Tie/Sway bar combo is good too:
I think the Neuspeed bars would be good as well.

I got the one from dc. it took 15 minutes to put in and seems to work fine. To honest, I got the bar put in at the same time I did my swap (the shop suggested it and threw in a 'teg stock front tower bar also). I had so much work done on the car at the same time its difficult to say what the overall effect was.

Solid lower rear tie bars (ex. Skunk2 or Spoon) are better than the ones with holes (DC sports). Thats what i heard.
