16X7 w/ 205/40/16. your tires will be a lot cheaper to replace. when i had 15's w/ 50's series tires were around $90 each. now with 16's my tires are around $70-$80 each to replace.

WTF?

Really? Is that why my 195/50/15 Pirelli P700Z tires costed me $40 bucks per tire, and have a super-sticky 140 treadwear?

A lot of excellent tires can be had for like $65 per tire, like Dunlop W10 Sport, Kumho Ecsta 712, etc.

I SELL tires at my work as well as other parts, so I think I can honestly say that on the whole 15'' tires WILL be cheaper.

If you care at all about performance, then you would try to get 15'' wheels if you have a 1992-1995 Civic. If you run 16'' wheels on the 1992-1995 Civic, then you're stuck with 205/40/16.

What good tires are there in this size? Really? I used to have 16'' wheels, so you can't tell emthere are really good, sticky tires in that size. I had the Falzen Ziex and they sucked. 340 treadwear - hard as a rock. I had the Kumho 712 - 280 treadwear, better than the Ziex, but still not enough grip. Toyo Proxes FZ4 are like 380 treadwear, and they are harder than the other 2 I just mentioned.

If you have a 1996-up Integra or 1994-2001 Integra, then you can run the 205/45/16 because of bigger wheelwells. This allows you to choose from a FEW good tire. Yokohama A520. 200 treadwear, good grip. Falken Azenis - excellent grip, 200 treadwear. Blah Blah....

But if you get 15'' wheels, you have TONS of tires to choose from that are great tires for performance. The lower the treadwear, then the stickier the tire. If you want harder tires, then those are usually even cheaper too.

Do a SEARCH and you should find like 6 other topics about tires, and you'll hear much of the same there:

https://honda-tech.com/zerosearch

That's the search function. Just type in "tires" on the subject matter/title and click on the EG+Civic/Del Sol forum. It pulls up like 7 or 8 new topics about tires. I suggest you read them all, and try to make an informed decision that way. You will probably come to this conclusion:

15'' wheels/tires are what's best for the 1992-1995 Civic.

Here's some pics to show you how 15'' wheels will look on 1992 hatches:

The 2 black ones are mine (sold one) while the rest are my friends:

All 15'' wheels with good, sticky tires. The wheels on my 2 cars are Rotas. They weigh just 12lbs. and can be purchased for $400 a SET - all 4!!! The tires were $40 a piece. Total that up and you get:

$560.00!!!

That's wheels and tires. So what do you think? With Rota, Konig (new wheels are bad-***!) and others making 11-12lb. 15'' wheels from $385-$450 a SET, how can you pass that up?

Lighter wheels are better for everything:

Accleration, corbnering, turning response, etc. I'm not just pulling that out of my *** either. My friedsn and I all auto cross, and my 16'' wheels and tires SUCKED for auto-x.

Good luck.

Tom i totally agree with your statement on wheel sizing, except one thing, with 16" you are not limited to 205-40 only.. there are alot of manufactuers who offer very grippy tires in 205/45 size, and for us ek guys azenis are offered in 215/45 not sure if you can tuck those in eg fenders but trey has them on his Ek with no probs... i do wish 205/50 was available.. but oh well one day ill buy another set of 15"s we all know I am a wheel *****

Yes, that's exactly what I said - almost. Since the fender wells are smaller on the 1992-1995 Civic, even 205/40/16 can scrub if the car is lowered and you turn really hard - I had some 205/40/16 and they would scrub when cornering hard. 205/40/16 are usually just sporty LOOKING tires that are hard so they last long, while the 45 series 16'' tires actually have PERFORMANCE-minded tires available.

that sounds like the tires you were buying or where you were shopping....I have never heard of the same tires being cheaper in 16s over 15s. I vote for 14's(HX's)

Here are my wheels, 15x6.5 with 195/50/15 tires. I will be moving to 205 tires when these run out.

15" rims are good because the tires are cheap and for obvious performance reasons...With 15" wheels you can fit all stock brakes w/o clearance issues..If you plan on going with big brakes in the front then you might need 16's...

I have 16's on my EG, but they are light and they look nice, so I gave up some performance...

well it all depends.
if you go with a body kit then get 17's
if you want to look good and race once in awhile 16's
straight up race then 15's.

get 14's or 15's, those are the best looking sizes on a hatch

Go with 16" I just bought some 15" rotas I didn't like how they looked on my car with my drop. Now I want to sell them and get some 16" kosei K1's. But thats my preference. 15" look good if you drop your hatch real low.

if you get 15's, get at 2.5 or 3" drop. i have a 2" drop and about a 1" wheel gap in the front and 1.5 - 2" in the back. doesn't look good.

Yeah well lets' look at it like this:

Looks are totally opinion-based, so there will be some that think that 15's look the best on 1992-1995 Civics (like me) while others will say 16-18'' wheels look better.

But let's look at FACTS too.

You have a MUCH better selection of REAL high performance tires when you get 15'' wheels. Tons of 140-220 treadwear tires, and for those who want hileage then they can get 220-500 treadwear too.

If you run 16'' tires on a 1992-1995 Civic you will have to run 205/40/16. Only a very small handful of tires to choose from, which maybe one or 2 is actually worth a **** in terms of grip.

On an EK you can and should go with 205(or 215)/45/16 - these sizes offer good tires, but still slightly limited.

Looks are subjective, but performance is NOT. 15'' wheels rule because of the tire selection, PRICE, ability to drop the car as much as desired with NO scrubbing, and overall lighter wheels too.

All this coming from someone who had 16'' wheels on his car and hated them compared to 15'' wheels

Ah this may be a rice question, I hope not tho' I'm planning to run nitrous this summer on my EK4, so will bigger wheels help launching with nitrous (zex)? I ask is because I've heard from many ppl that they usually spin for like the first and second gear, so I figure that maybe bigger wheels will help grip better.

I'd just like to say that I LOVE your cars. THose are both B18C5s in 5th gens? Nice. Where did you get the wheels? I'm already learning stuff on this board. I want a 5th gen HB, and I wanted 16s, but after reading this and seeing the pics, I think 15s will be nice.

Get 15”. You will end up having more tire brands to chose from.
