Year car?
You can remove the evaporator assem out of the car and get the bypass peice that a car with out A/C comes with. Box located behind glove box. It is not just a little thin peice -but it is not like you are removing a brick wall out of the car either.

i did this four days ago to my 99cx. if the system is the same then your heater is in on the left, the ac unit is in the center, and the blower is on the right. i wanted to take the ac part out but it doesnt seem ill be able to and still be able to keep the heater functioning right. there will be a big *** hole separating the blower from the heater. i dont know if that helps but there it is. i dunno. maybe i have it all wrong.

You dont have to get the non-ac unit. You can pull the stuff inside out, then put the shell back in. That's what I did with my car.
