What potential does the D16Z6 have?
Hi, what potential does the D16Z6 have?
What horsepower numbers can the basic bolt ons bring it to?
And what else can you do to it, can you convert it to a B16?
Can you turbo it? And how high of horsepower have you guys reached with the D16Z6?
Thanks alot!
my curiousity may lead to me get a 94 si.

from what i know of what most people do (cheapest way to get hp) is turbo it. for poor mans project they get turbos from junkyard out of eclipses and talons and use them....or you can get the greddy turbo which seems like alot of people get because of their ease, i've also seen jackson racing supercharger for it......and people w/ their turbo's are getting around 200hp out of the d16z6 motor built right....(a little more or less)...still doing my research but i'll probably end up taking the turbo route for the si engine...

The greddy kit on a EX will make around 200 hp with alot of boost. I think the 15g (right trim?) doesnt do much after 10 psi. The JRSC doesn't make an assload of power. At 14 psi maybe 170-180.
I know mine isn't making much...

What do you consider a lot? A member of this board was running 10psi, or 12, and he dyno'd at over 200hp on his D16Y8. It's all about tuning.

for the d16z6...unless you rebuild your engine such as sleeving it and rods/pistons you probably dont want to put too much psi on the stock motor...im planning on putting no more than 6 psi when i get the motor......for i want it to last.....

Yeah, how much would a turbo cost with labour(i don't know enough to do it).
And how about bolt on's, what HP's levels can we reach with those?
Thanks!

any motor has great potential....its just that the d16z6 needs a little more love and care than a b series motor.....a little more money... a little more blood sweat and tears....thats about it...

If you're thinking about supercharging, think again. The D15B7 has a bigger increase in power than the D16Z6 with the same setup(the Z6 will put down more power, but in a power/$ ratio, the B7 is better). As far as the engine in general goes, it's one of 2 sohc vtec engines, but is the better of the 2. Parts are interchangeable with D16A1's, D16Y8's, and B18B, keeping OEM parts. You can also use B series TB's. Some companies are making good products for the Z6 as well. Check out Spade's thread on SOHC upgrades. Will teach you a lot. The Z6 has same amount of toque as a B16, but less horsepower, which can be easily made up and stay well under a swap. For the Z6,I would suggest turbo, unless you got the time and money for all motor, and if you're going all motor, there are plenty of options.

whats the r/s ratio on a D16??? Is it anywhere near the B16's?
