Default What motor is better for my 1995 Civic Si.

Ok people i have a 95 Civic Si with a pos d15 thats leaking through the intake valve in cyl. number 2 and I want to replace it. I have two options so far. Option one is a b16b that i can get for about 2k for an almost complete swap and option two which is a gsr b18c. The b18c will run about 2600 but i will need some more stuff to make it complete. So out of these two choices what would be the best for light modification and a dd. Thanx for any help. Late.

I only have 2,500 for the motor. I need it asap because my motor has an unknown amount of high miles and may die any day now.

Well if you can't afford the gsr anyways idk why you are even bothering asking. But if you can I'd get the gsr.

b16b for $2000 .then go for it man. CTR swap. half then the market price. but u will need to prepare a couple hundres dollars to buy some minor parts to make it work.such as motor mounts. shift linkages.all the fluids.. and most important, labor. if u dont know how to do the swap by yourself. shops charge anywhere from $500~$900
P.S pay attention to how complete the swap is. mostly they will come with motor, tranny, ecu and harness..with all the sensors and everything

I was planning on doing the swap at home with some of my know it all honda freak friends. Jk. But yeah ill be saving on the labor and i hope that the 500 i have left over will be enough to do the ctr swap. I might be able to scrape up some more cash or use the good old credit card.

How do you have an Si with a D15 and are you sure it's a B16B and not a B16A that you can get for $2000?

Quite honestly id just go b18b. These can be had for under 1000. It will be a huge upgrade from your d15 and with the extra money you wont have to worry about being completely strapped for cash incase anything happens. It is never a good idea to spend every last penny on upgrades because it never fails that immediately afterwards sometihng will go wrong.

If you want to save a little more money, a B16A2 makes excellent power for a car like yours. Also, JDM motors are more difficult to pass emissions with.

B16b is a horrible choice. You live in CA and there is no USDM equivelant for the B16b. If you get a BAR ref ticket you are screwed.

If you are hard up for VTEC then get a B16a from Hmotorsonline.com and if you could give two bits of a **** about VTEC get the complete B18b changeover for $2200 and with the extra $300 you can easily find the components to pass BAR with. IM's for B18b1's are pretty damn cheap as well as the EVAP components.

Yeah i guess i should stick to usdm just because smog is such a pain in the @$$ but 2000 for a b16b was tempting. The reason i have a d15 is because the guy i bought it from swapped it, probably had a swap in it and yanked it when he decided to sell and put the d15 in. I found an ls vtec for 1400 so i might just do that. Anyway as promised here are some pics of my Si that i picked up a couple months ago.

Tell me what you think.

Nice looking car.

Im a floridian, and we dont have emissions/inspections at all, I know about calis regulations, but what about those tickets? I assume they can't issue them to out of state cars.

Why not pick the B16B up for the 2k. If it's complete and like you say you could turn it around on ebay for more than you picked it up for. This will give you money for a swap that will be BAR legal and some leftover pocket change.

Just a thought.

What do you mean out of state car. Like if it is regestered in another state and you are just passing through or if it is regestered in another state but it is say.. yours and you live in Cali. Any way i think they cant give you a fix it ticket or a ticket to get inspected. Im not sure.

I would just go for the GSR. Yes, it is expensive. But from my experience, it is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH cheaper in the long run to go out and buy what you REALLY want the first time than it is to buy something cheaper, find that you don't really like it, sell it at a loss, and buy what you really wanted in the first place. Also, the GSR will not present any nasty smog problems like a B16B or LS-VTEC. And it is not only a motor that you can grow with. But it is one that has sufficient power and torque right out of the box that you are not going to feel 'deprived' while waiting to get the cash to be able to modify it. Take it from someone who thought a B16A was 'good enough', but who eventually went to a B18C5.

As for buying the B16B and reselling it, this could be a GREAT way to raise some cash to get the GSR swap. Just make sure the motor is not stolen before buying it.

b18c1>b16b for sure. thats a good price for a b16b but for about 600 more you could have a motor that is usdm so you can pass bar easier and they make better power and torque. b16b's dont have torque for ****. either go b18b or b18c1. good luck in whatever you choose. keep us updated.
