Default What kind of power should I expect out of a modded D16Y7?

Ok, I posted a thread on here a few days ago about the y7/y8 mini me swap. And I think it would be safer for the time being to just put the complete y7 in to start to make sure it runs strong and everything before i go putting more power to it with the y8 head. My question tho is, what kind of power should i expect out of the y7 with a skunk2 intake manny, aem short ram intake, dc sports 4-2-1 header, and 2 1/2 magnaflow exhaust from the header back??? And this all should just be plug and play also right? i swapped the intake manny, throttle body, tps, and iacv over from the y8 to y7, only thing that wont plug in would be vtec im assuming, and it would still run fine on the vtec ecu (p2p), thats what several people have told me, including the guy helping me with the swap, is this legit???...any help appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How much power do you think? No where near enough power to warrant spending that kind of money. Waste.

Creating a thread title that summarizes your tech problem helps you get more responses by letting members know what specific information is needed -- Title edited.

If you want a bigger gains, you need to do a few things, correct me if I`m wrong fella`s. You would want to bore the cylinders at least 5 or more. Obviously bigger pistons and rings to fit. You would want at least a stage 2 or 3 cam and adjustable cam gear. Have your head ported, at least 10psi of boost, intercooler.....the list can go on and on. But honestly, you won`t get much from bolt ons and wishful thinking. If you want 'more power' out of you engine, than I suugest a swap.

Hm, not much for the time and money with the head. I have a D15B7 and it has about the same numbers. Isn't this one of honda's eco-high-mpg-engines?

Even if you already have those parts, you've wasted money. The S2 manifold will more than like HURT performance. I don't know about the wimpy Y7 but I've read that you'll have no power to 4500 RPMs. You also would have been better off getting an Ebay intake and a velocity stack rather than that AEM. DC headers must be for the bling because they don't do much more than $50 Ebay headers. Bolt-ons MAY get you about 10 horsepower, if that. Mini me swaps don't net much more. All in all, you'll still be slow. Run a P2P without VTEC wired up and you'll throw a CEL.

If you want to make power boost it or swap it. Otherwise keep it stock.

I'm agreeing with grumble the S2 manifold will open up the air but it seems to lose a little power, at least on my ls it did. If you want any significant gains, you either need to go forced induction or get an h/k/b series motor.

Or get a chipped OBDI ECU with a conversion harness. It still won't do much on a Y7/8.

the biggest flaws of the y7 performance wise is the transmission and exhaust manifold. Super long gears and the catalytic converter is right on the mainifold, very restrictive.

For all the parts you have you will be lucky to hit 110 whp. My buddy made about 110 whp with a similar setup. With the y8 head you will probably make another 15-20. The transmission will def. slow you down though.

ditto. Not much power to be made with the y7 all motor unless you spend a fortune. Anything can be done with enough money
The most efficient way to get some cheap power would be to use

ARP rod bolts
Swap off that crappy downdraft intake manifold for the y8 im
Run low boost. 7-8 psi

You should be able to achieve around 200whp or less. Might not last forever but it would be fun.

To be honest though, if i were you, i would either...

a) swap your engine for an engine with more potential
b) Buy a car with said engine.

Would be the cheapest, around here you can get a car with a swap already done in it for cheaper than just the swap itself

It may not make alot of power but it can be a load of fun. The y7 with y8 manifold will be alot quicker. Use the y8 trans to get the lower gears.
Also get a conversion harness and run a p72. I have a friend running this setup getting 12.5s in the 1000ft. Don't listen to some of these guys you'll have friends wondering why the he'll your so fast lol.

Wow he wanted to know how much power he should expect not what to do if i am correct. You really aren't looking at gaining that much with just the y7 and those few bolts on best thing to do is google it and see what those parts that did buy can possibly increase or decrease in hp and torque. When you swap over to y8 should get some more power just with the vtec

Do the mini-me. I guarantee that in six months you'll be back here asking about turbo-charging the engine.

the y8/y7 blocks are IDENTICAL doing the mini me will get you 21hp (at crank) and raise compression a bit which might gain another few ponies got to hook up vtech to your ecu to get all the power out of the head. thats without all the other exhaust, sri, header, and whatever other bolt ons. look it up

Still slow with the DX transmission. Absolutely nothing to write home about.
