Default What happens when a non-vtec cam goes in a vtec head?

Theres this kid at my school with a blown up D16Z6 he had to have the machine shop resurface it for warpage. When he was putting it back together he fucked up and the lobes on the camshaft shattered. Well now he got a D15B7 cam which is Non-VTEC motor. He is sure that it will work on his motor. Mt friends and I have repeatedly told him that it wont work. So now I'll just sit back and laugh since there is no chance of changing his mind. So has anyone heard what will happen when he puts that cam in his Z6? I can't imagine that its not too good if it even fits.

He probably let the vtec rocker lay beneath the cam flopped over....I believe that's how these sohc guys bust their cams in half on install.

The D15B7 cam will fit maybe...obviously I have never tried, but I am sure this vtec rocker will jump around. The lma's aren't going to do anything for it. Plus since that part of the cam isnt ground it's a tad more rough, so it'll surely destroy his vtec rockers "feeler" pads.

Let the dude do what he wants...who cares. When he jacks it all up then call him an idiot...end of story.

the lobes arent even the same on nonvtec anc vtec sohc cams. spacing is differ, etc. not gonna work. PLAIN and simple totally different cams.

let me look for a pic on differences.

I think he has more problems than he knows. doesnt seem like he knows whats he's doing when installing a camshaft to begin with.

cant find a vtec cam pic right now. but here's an sohc non-vtec

That's funny because my friend and I joke about cutting his cam out of a mustang in half to put it in my car. But it's strictly joking, im not that retarded.

When he was putting it in he didn't even line it up correctly so he went to crank it over thats when it screwed up. Well he'll be doing this at my automotive class so he'll probably use assembly lube. My teacher doesn't know too much about hondas and this kid is hell bent on using the non-vtec cam. To the guy who asked about him screwing up the cam without messing up the rest of the head he hasn't said anything about rebuilding the head so i'm guessing he'll just use the same parts. He's one of those people who do half-*** jobs. I'll keep you guys updated then take pics so people will see what happens.
