What engine is this?
Okay Ive been looking around the forums and on the internet so im not just coming here and posting this without any research. I got a 93 civic EX coupe about 2 weeks ago and the guy I got it from did a swap. Im not 100% sure what the motor is, it says ZC but I think its a D16Z6 and ive got a couple of people who told me it was a D16Y8 or something.....not trying to post a stupid post I just wanna know for sure what motor I have so I dont sound stupid when Im talking about it.

Re: What engine is this?
They did a mini-me with a vtec head and non vtec bottom end. ZC is a jdm bottom end, but as for head, not sure. Heres a link on how its done.

Re: What engine is this?
Unless they swapped the valve cover, can tell you its NOT a Y8. Y8's are just bare metal with HONDA stamped in them.
and Z6's have HONDA VTEC Stamped in them.
so...could be D15B.

not all Z6's had VTEC stamped on the valve cover... 92-93.5's didnt... only 94-95's had VTEC stamped, otherwise they looked just as the OP's picture does..

I don't suppose anyone thought of the blindingly obvious here. JDM SOHC Vtec ZC. They're basically identical to a D16Z6, the only difference being they lack a purge solenoid.

Re: What engine is this?
over the exhaust mani.....in between the valve cover seal and the exhaust holes there should be a stamp that should say something like P2P or P06 etc......usually thats how you reconize the head....and it tell you the date that the head was made

Re: What engine is this?
Just listen to 94EG8, he knows what he's talking about. There are quite a few different ZC engines. There's the DOHC version, SOHC VTEC version, and SOHC non-VTEC version. They were in Integras, Civics, Concertos, some Rovers, some FWD, some AWD (or 4WD). Regardless, unless someone went through the trouble of swapping on a VTEC head onto a non-VTEC ZC engine, it's just a VTEC ZC engine. and regardless, it's NOT a D15B (there are a million variations of D15B's too), it's NOT a D16Z6, and it's NOT a D16Y8. If it were any of those other engines, those codes would be stamped on the block in place of the ZC stamp.

Ok so now for a nice change of subject....what would be the cheapest most powerful DOHC motor I could put in this without having to worry about getting refereed for it?
EDIT: And I want it to be Vtec
