What Does A JDM D15B Motor Normally Rev. To, And Is 8K Safe?
Can someone answer a question for me. My cousin just picked up a 95 civic that he was told had a JDM D15B with VTEC SOHC (NOT USDM), so he says. It was running rough so he tuned it up and installed a GSR computer, and it's running great, although the VTEC isn't hooked up yet, so he has to still work on that. Anyway what Does a JDM D15B motor Normally Rev. To, and is 8K safe? Thanks. Sorry if this is the wrong place for this post, but I thought it would get answered faster here, and this is where I normally post. If this needs to be moved I understand. Thanks again!

does the d15b have the same redline as the other SOHC vtec motors?
i thought it was around 7200 redline.You my get an answer sooner in the Civic or CRX forums.good luck.

i revved to 8 when i had a turbo on mine but w/o the turbo it stops making any power around 7500

So what would be the max rpm on a stock d15b motor, other than I/H/E he could get away with safely?

What if he put the shift light at 7,200 rpm so that he would shift at about 74k by the time he reacts to the shift light? Could he get away with shifting between 72k and 75k?

im pretty sure redline is 7200 i would do put light at 7 k so he would shift on 7200

Considering the engine falls on its face at about 6800rpm, I'd set the **** light there. Overrevving an engine for ***** and giggles is stupid: if you're not making power, don't force the issue. It's a D15B, it's not fast - nor will it be - regardless of how much you abuse it, JDM or not.

I'm set my rev limiter to 7,400 RPM.. I usually shift at 7k though.

i have a d15b in my 93 coupe and im runnin the p28 for now till i find a p08, but the redline is 7200..plus who cares if its not the fasted motor ,he didnt ask if it would be.

tell your friend to get a ecu asap becuase hes car can't be running to good w/ a check engine light w/ a ecu thats looking for iab's and a knock sensor

personally i dont rev mine anywhere close for gas saving reasons, but i will generally shift at like 7 if i am really beating on it
