Icon2 What do you think i should do next?

Okay so i have been slowly upgrading my DD which is a 97 civic HX to give it more get up and go. Below is what i have done so far. What do you think i should do next?

1. Skunk2 cam gear
2. Mugen Valve cover
3. APC ram air intake
4. Taylor 409 race wires
5. NGK plugs
6. APC short shifter
7. Fidanza 7lb flywheel
8. Excedy stage 1 clutch, pressure plate

These are things i am thinking about getting....
1) Aftermarket exhaust system. I'm looking for a nice deep sound, not a weak ricer sounds, suggestions plz?
2) Header...anyone have a suggestion of Brand?

All input would be greatly appreciated, so thanks ahead of time =]

Go with a magnaflow exhaust if your looking for a deep sound and dual exhaust wont do anything for your car working off of one header. Also, try a skunk2 intake manifold for some extra hp.

What does that matter? It's the model designed for fuel efficiency, they have the d16y5 engines.

ok thats why i asked bud, Maybe convert to obd1 and get a tune? and id definatly suggest getting a header. and like azandford said definatly try a skunk2 intake mani.

Oh and IMO dual exhaust on a civic is rice. just my two cents tho

why would you get a dif cam gear if you have the stock cam...that doesn't really make any sense, i would say either cam (since you already have the gear). or header i like dc sports headers, for exhaust don't go dual imo that is just as ricey as a fart can you have no need for dual. If you want to upgrade exhaust with a good clean sound go with apexi ws2.

obd1 is an older operating system that honda used in years 92-95, obd1 allows you to be ablt to tue your ecu where as obd2 does not allow that. but you dont have to convert your whole car you should be able just to get a conversion harness.

well either way it's not like it's a v8 or v6,, ,the number of cams has nothing to do with dual exhaust. Obd1 means the the onboard diagnotsic system. Basically there are obd0 I and II all newer vehicles have two. It just has to do with how much the computer monitors etc.

either build it for boost or swap a B-series engine

what are your plans for the car?

ie drag, auto x, etc

it seems like your just throwing money at random things, for example that cam gear is pointless at the point your at now..

I think you need to set a goal and start buying parts according to your goal

To be honest the cam gear was already on the car when i bought it. I don't have any big plans for the car. Just something to play in, and tinker with. Later on down the road i was thinking on putting a Jackson Racing supercharger on it.

I know that the HX has to cat's on it, one in the stock header and one on the exhaust...right? I was thinking if i bought a header and catback exhaust this would free up the engine to push more air which would increase the HP...(correct me if I'm wrong)

I'm not wanting anything like 300 WHP or anything like that, just to tinker with it here and there and slowly upgrade it, and learn about it at the same time.

Just as a curious question, about how much would a B-series swap total cost be?

I searched the FAQ's and couldn't find anything related to converting obd1. I might have over looked it, but could you point me in the right direction?

It has one and the "stock header" is a manifold not really a header. But yes by getting different exhaust you will gain some horsepower. But what these guys are saying is you need to make yourself a plan. If you are planning on boost. For starters i would turbo not super, but you should do mods in that direction. I.e. there would be no point in paying big bucks for a header if you plan on turboing since you will need a different one when you do. You will never get any big gains at all out of a d series unless you boost. You will pretty much always be slower than the average soccer mom in a mini van.

okay well then start by researching and learning everything you can about boosting your car. If you don't have experience I would spend a minimum of a year collecting parts and researching. Like they said converting to obdI is a good idea. You could get injectors, fuel pump... things along those lines

you said you wanted to boost it i would forget buying headers there a waste in my opinion for your engine and way overpriced save that money toward boosting your car which is really the best way to achieve any kind of good power either way gl

skunk2 intake manifold and spoon headers that open up into a 2.5" exhaust dont do 3inch unless you plan on boosting a lot

Agreed, the header will lose its value after you are done with it, might as well save the money.
