lots of speed, lots of power.. i'd go b20 with a si or gsr trans. cheap, reliable, and leaves the door open for crvtec down the road

I was thinking GSR? 170HP right? Hows the torque? I want something strong...b20 is the cheapest tho...

Wasn't your other thread kinda of like this? At the very least you probably could have blended both topics into one thread.
https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/2000-ek-hatch-thoughts-2815176/
I'll say what i keep telling people though.
Asking us what engine you should get is stupid.
Figure out what you want to spend. Don't forget to take into account other parts and maintenance for the swap (fluids, timing belt, etc.).
What kind of power are you looking to get? Do you plan to go turbo later?
What are you local laws? If you live in CA you can't have a light truck engine in your passenger car. So no B20s. A general rule (I think this might be a nation-wide law even) is no engines older than the car.
Are you going to stay OBDII or OBDI? Do you want a stock engine or do you want to tune it? Are you doing the work yourself?
Read up, figure it out yourself, get your swap done and encourage others not to make threads like this.

Why the EFF would they do the GSR swap for $200 more!?!? a swap is a swap regardless... It really comes down to your negotiating skills. A B20 w/ a GS-R or Si tranny will be plenty good for you... especially if you're coming from a D-series experience... bleh... B20's are GOOD little motors... I have a friend that had one and it was AMAZING for what it was... It was almost as quick as a B18C (JDM GSR) w/ full bolt-ons. Just a thought... Let me know and I can direct you to the guy here on Honda-Tech that had it. It was a total N/A sleeper...

whats your budget?? Are you paying a shop to do it or your self?
Im looking at going with a gsr for my car currently, but a b20 would do aswell.
My friend had one in his integra and it was pretty quick for what it was and only ran him about 800 bucks installed. (we did the work)

Yea...I'm going to have a shop do it. They charging me $1500 for complete swap and paperwork. 6 month warranty and engine and tranny have 40k on it. Good deal?

Yea, that sounds pretty cheep to me. Based on what ive seen from the shops around me they are going to charge around 1k simply for removal and install.
I dont know about you or anyone else but i would start asking questions simply due to how cheep it is. I may be wrong but, you can never be too careful.

Oh ok.
Well I would ask where the motor came from? Is all the nessacary things wired up? ( vtec things like that, if you go with gsr)
What type of ecu?
Will the car stay obd2 with a jumper to obd1 or run the corect obd2 ecu?
there is one shop by me that charged some guy i met 2200 for a complete gsr swap into his 99 hatch. It was the jankyist swap i have ever seen. Noithing was wired correctly, runing the wrong ecu, they broke the speed sensor and did not wire in vtec or anything.
I dont want to post the shops name, but if anyone in the tacoma area wants to know, pm me.

dont go with the B20 if you are planning on lots of boost cuz the cylinder walls are weak...
I just did a swap to the JDM B18C (GSR) in my 4-door ej6 back in january, and it is absolutely amazing. plus 178 crank hp is a dang good starting place, even if you wanna keep it N/A

I would HIGHLY recommend that you think about tranny mods too before you put everything back together and in the car. I put a MFactory Helical LSD, MFactory 4.785 final drive, ACT Prolite flywheel(8.8lbs), and a Exedy stage 1 clutch in an 00' si tranny with my car. Although my engine is still bone stock WITHOUT ANY bolt-ons til i get more money, all those torque-multipliers make me destroy anyone with even close hp. i raced my friend with 200hp and just frickin walked away like it wasnt even fair, and ive beat mustangs before too...with the stock engine. oh yeah and i have 9.5lb 15x7 Enkei RPF1 wheels, which again help with the torque. Torque=acceration, hp=potential top speed(limited by gearing of course). go with torque multiplying mods and you'll never be let down, the acceleration kicks some serious tail!!

B20's are cheap, $450 for a complete longblock at Attarco. What transmission will come with the swap? You better be getting at least a s80/y80 gsr trans. or better s4c. So you're telling me the shop is charging you $600-700 for labor? Honestly, you're better off with usdm/jdm b18c/1 swaps for a little more. You get the torque, gearings and top end also there are countless of parts for performance upgrades. B20's and B18b's are fun for torque but I got bored when I had an LS Integra. Feels flat after 6k rpms. So now I am going back to a vtec motor, building an b18c1 with type r internals. Prior vtec engines were stock b16a2 and b18c1.
