on my JDM H22, the redline changes randomly. sometimes im in limp mode and sometimes it's normal. i checked all the wiring and it's fine. oil level is fine. but there is a dent in my oil pan... would that not allow me to redline? im using a JDM 4ws auto P13 ecu

well, i just took it for a spin just now... the temperature gauge needle was half way to operating temperature so i decided to just smash on it anyways. 1st gear hit 7400 2nd gear hit 7400 and that's where i stopped smashing on it. as im at a light, i take off rather slowly... i then took 2nd gear to redline but it didnt! i stuck at 6500 so i put it in nuetral while coasting at ~35mph and rev it to 8k?!?!?!? but the thing is, it jumps at 6500 then practically FORCES it's way to 8k... something is strange...
i realized i do have an exhaust leak at the top portion of the header. where the 4 conjunct to 2. my o2 sensor is at the very bottom towards to cat. could this be my culprit?

umm I dont understand the point. are you making power and pulling all the way up to your redline? If not then theres no need for you to be hitting the revlimiter and you should probably stop what youre doing. my 2nd question would be if you have a ghetto chipped ecu? If so trash that piece of garbage and get a respectable chip burned or put a stock chip in there. also when you say its getting "stuck" at 6500 are you actually hitting the revlimiter or does your tach just stop there. If thats what youre trying to explain it means theres a problem with your tach.

well, when i try to get into VTEC, it wont let me, it just revs past the engagement point and stops at 6500 (the needle bounces there and won't go any further).
I do not have a ghetto chipped ECU either. it's a stock one. and i do not think it's my tach... i can bury my tach at 7400 at times... like i said, i've hit my NORMAL rev limit but most of the time, i can't.

That could be your problem i would look into getting a 5spd ecu. It could help plus the a/f mix and rev points are differnt.

most likely your tach man.. my tach acts wierd at times as well. Sometimes ill be at 7500 on the tach and i look down at the vafc and it reads 9k. honda tachs are not that accurate.
Just seen that you are using a auto ecu... this is the culprit. get a 5 speed ecu and ull be all good.

The same thing happend when my brother swiched his motor to a b18c, and trans from auto to 5 speed in his civic. just find a stock prelude 5 speed ecu and that should solve the problem.

Re: (Advan06)
dude your tach jumping arround doesnt mean youre hitting redline. does the motor sound like its revlimiting when you see the needle it stop at 6800? theres a real big difference between seeing your needle jump arround and actually hitting the limiter.

YOU ARE CRAZY TO PUSH IT TO 8000 RPMS! ive never ever ever push a motor that hard.

sounds like a situation with my buddy's b16 w/ auto ecu. his vtec would not kick in at around 5,200, but instead it was 6000 or so. ecu is controlling that. but i cannot say it is the same with your situation.

well that's what i mean. it's like im in LIMP MODE. i know im not hitting the rev limiter. sometimes i do though. and sometimes, it jumps all the way to 8000. i know when it will hit it's rev limit when i hear my secondaries open at 5500. when i dont hear it open, i know im going to be stuck at 6500.
im going to try another tack to see if it solves my problemo.

we're talking about an H22, not the 9k rev limit of a b16 or b18
be careful revving that h22 to 8k

Re: what causes redline to change? i jump from 6500 to 7400 randomly... (95greenlude)
could my problem be from the internals? valves...something? i hope it's not the internals...
another question, will timing of the distributor have any effect on this? how about the clutch? whenever i step on that friggin clutch, the power seems to die. i sometimes stall too when im at a complete stop with the clutch pressed down.
when i press the clutch down and rev it, it seems to jump at 6500 once, and then proceeds to 8000. i know it's not good, derrrr, but i've only done it just to see what'll happen.
