What can I do to my 1999 Honda Civic LX Sedan?
So I've got a 1999 1.6L I-4 Honda Civic LX sedan. I want to make it fast, fast as in 0-60 acceleration time. I already know how I'm going to mod the body. But I need help for a new engine, cai, injectors, etc. I'm looking for a 5 second or less 0-60 time? I know it's an automatic so it might not be achievable. But I thought I would run it past the forums just to make sure. I'm basically ready to spend any amount as I am very deeply emotionally invested into the car. It's my first car that my parents bought when they moved here to America, so I'm basically ready to spend 20k if needed. Thanks.

like very first link in the FAQ sticky at top of forum, I suggest going over that thread because most people on this forum will rip you a new one for asking any question that's in those stickies.

You're high. That's all there is to it.
If you really want to do this, you'll need a standard transmission, a completely different engine, and some form of forced induction. Now give the FAQ sticky in this section, as well as in the FI section, and give them both a long, hard read. $20k might get you there.

5 second 0-60 with FWD that rides okay on the street is difficult to achieve. You'll need a turbo to say the least...you can stick with your D series if you build it - really doesn't matter if you build that or build another motor.
For details on turbo specs you'll need you need to know more in depth about turbos. You can either start googling the wealth of information out there or if you're not going to figure that stuff out yourself you can ask a performance shop what sizes you should be going for. It's probably best achieved with something around the GT28 range but you might be able to run a 25 hot enough to get the job done. TD05 from Chrysler would get the job done.
As for the transmission, the stock Honda auto trans won't cut it, a manual can but maybe swap out 1/2 gears with straight cut gears for a quicker 1/2 shift.
