Re: What is better turbo or exhaust (JDM honey)
I've heard that if you put JUST a turbocharger underneath the hood of a car it adds 78whp...seriously, buy one and sit it on your valve cover, then go drive your car...
The only thing is, it only works if you have your eyes closed and you're driving on the edge of a cliff.
Seriously, a turbo KIT will make more power, but it costs quite a bit more...and exhaust will give you like...2-5 horsepower and some noise.

Alright man. A turbo will make your car faster, and you probably will end up hooking up an exhaust system to it.

I realize this is the dumbest question most of you have ever seen anybody ask.
But try to help the guy or something...obviously he doesn't know his way worth of damn and I wouldn't trust him to put a spark plug on my car, but we all gotta start someplace. ****, I know most of you claim to know everything from the cradle but some pple gotta learn - and when you gotta learn you start at 0. This guy is at 0.
@ OP:
The exhaust or a "cat-back" is from the catalytic converter to the tip - the catalytic converter is right underneath the shifter - so in other words, the exhaust is COMPLETELY separate from the turbo - hence, people saying both.
Now, you don't NEED both if you're going to turbo light pressure (low psi) on stock internals, but it'll add like 25hp WHEN BOOSTED. Stock it'll add like 5, maybe 6.
A good cat-back exhaust will run you around 2-500. Shouldn't pay more than that IMO . The name factors BIG into that, and it doesn't always mean something.
As far as a turbo system goes, you have to piece one together - it's not JUST a turbo, the piping that's involved - the wastegate (if not internally gated), the manifold, downpipe, fuel controller, vacuum hoses, oil or coolant hoses, intercooler, possibly bigger injectors, so on and so forth.
I know it's from ebay, but here's a pic:
Now I know that's some ebay bullshit (don't go ebay btw), but the point I"m trying to show you - is that they're a kit - the turbo itself might only run 1-500 dollars for a decent one - but everything else will raise the price, and no, JUST a turbo can't be installed. Now usually if your'e gonna buy a kit it'll cost you 2k+, if you're gonna try to piece one together you're still looking at 1200 + the dyno tune.
Check your budget, check your goals, check the usage of the car, then try to decide.

He did get an answer. At least one or two legitimate answers. They were just outweighed by the flaming.
