What am I driving...
OK... i drive a 94 honda civic... (my first car...)
i plan to play with it a lot... i want to upgrade it in every way possible... problem is... i dont know the specs on it...
whats the best way to find out exact numbers, sizes, and specs on all the parts under the hood and all over the car??? Is there a way to use my VIN somewhere and get the full run down of specs????
I'm trying to buy up parts online (because that's where the deals are...)
but i dont know if it's EX/DX/LX/CX/Si/Del Sol Si, SOHC, D16Z6,B16A2/A3,D15Z1,D15B7, or D15B8...
all i know so far is it's a 94 honda, non-vtec, 16 valve, 4cyl, 4dr civic sedan... i've searched as hard as i could under the hood and can't find any numbers that help me... i don't know who had this car before me... but nothing under the hood spells this stuff out... even the back of the car has the model letters missing... and inside the car is a 95 civic manual so i know thats not correct...
I went to procivic.com and I figure this car is not an EX because it didn't come with an OEM VTEC... so maybe that just leaves me with DX and LX???
help me out, guys...

Re: What am I driving... (meandino)
why do you say don't do an engine swap anytime soon?
The more I look at my engine... i don't see a need to replace it anytime soon... but why do you think i shouldn't whenever i want a better one???

Use the search button a lot and read up on as much as you can.
There are also stickies up top that will definitely help you.
Familiarize yourself with your car and the types of modifications you can do to it. One word of caution though, don't skimp out and buy cheap parts. Do it right the first time and don't take any shortcuts.

H-T White Ops
I keep telling the OP through PMs to either give me hiw VIN and I'll tell him exactly what he has (I'll decode it through the parts catalog) or go to CarFax.com and enter his VIN in there.
CarFax will tell him, for free, what year, make, model, trim, engine and assembly location for his car. He doesn't have to buy the report to see all of that.
Or again, he could send me the VIN and I'll tell him what it is.
The VIN will tell him exactly what he drives. There are different combinations of letters and numbers for every car and each one tells us something about that car.
Here's an example of how it works.
I will use this car as the example car.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...89053
Notice it doesn't tell me what the trim of the car is. That's okay though. It's pretty easy for me to find out, even if I don't off hand know the factory options that car has or what each trim needs.
It has the VIN in the advertisement.
So I take the VIN and enter it into the Honda electronics parts catalog.
And it tells me exactly what the car is.
So if the OP wants to know what he drives, that's all he has to do. Either try to use CarFax himself or give me the VIN and I'll tell him what it is. Don't worry, I won't post your VIN here or anything.

^ like he said. The "wrong" parts you may have bought may fit on your car as well the trim level does not determine many of the parts you will be buying. As many will tell you as well alot of honda parts are interchangeable. Good Luck

Re:
I'm surprised nobody's told him to save his money yet. No use investing in expensive bolt-ons that can easily total to the amount the car is worth in no time, especially on that engine, only to see a minimal increase in performance. I'm also going to guess that it's an automatic, but even if it's not, I still stand by my point.
Take it from someone who was young, stupid, and overzealous to buy bolt-ons for a measly motor. Can't get my money back but at least I can help others from wasting theirs.

OMG those rims are so nice.
and they really set off those chrome corners and hood pins!!!!
and the holes from the missing H really set off the holes for the front plate!!
OHHH and you did the no centercap mod to the rims, i'm loving it.

Re: Re: (GG99)
the car looks clean for the most parts and when i say clean i mean no rust. atleast you had the sense to buy a running car as your first one unlike someone who constatly has an on going project and the funds not to support it. oh well dumb mistake live and learn.
but yea you deff have a good car to start with there
