If you're going to be replacing internals, don't start with a B18C5. There's no point in paying extra for internals that you won't be using.

If you have your heart set on cams and internals, go with the H-series. They are great motors to build and have good base power and torque.

If you're going to do that, then just start with the Type-R engine.
I had suggested that you shouldn't start with the ITR engine because you mentioned "building it a lot," so I assumed you would be tearing it down and replacing pistons, rods, cams, valve springs, etc.

Re: (HaNsElBaDaSs)
If your going to get that EJ coupe...and it has the D16Z in it already...you can boost it for an okay price and still get a thrill...but like the saying...theres no replacement for displacement...start with a B18C1...and do your 'super' buildup. Instead of buying the B18C5 and replacing all those precious internals.

I'm quite curious as to your signature.
What engine can you get for 600, upgrade for 300, and blow away a cop car?

Re: (HaNsElBaDaSs)
ls vtech, the poormans type r, you can always boost the ls as well, thats one hell of a jump for your first swap. no offence but you might end up with something a bit over your head. if you have it in your head " oh i gotta type r" your gonna drive the crap out of it and things will go out left and right, a buddy of mine adam has a 95 ex coupe with an itr "b18c5" the car is nutz put constantly has issues.
if this would be your first swap ide either do an ls swap than boost it and put the gsr head in later for the ls vtech once you have become more familiar with your car and the added horsepower. all else fails start off with a b16

You have no idea what you're talking about.
Have fun putting 81mm pistons in a 75mm bore.
How do you plan to extend the D16's torque curve an extra 1000 RPM (in order to equal the peak horsepower of a B16A) with just bolt-ons?
