My transmission just started making a weird noise a couple days ago, its kind of a rattling/whiring sound. I need some help finding out what it is.

I'm pretty sure its coming from the transmission, because if I'm driving and I shift from fourth to third the sound speeds up. But, if I put it into third then take it back out and let off the clutch the sound will go away. It also makes the sound at idle sometimes when I am stopped which is weird, because if I'm driving and I put it in neutral the sound seems to go away.

No other problems though. It drives like normal. I haven't done anything unushally hard on my car lately that would of caused it. Any help is appreciated.

Does this sound go away whenever you push in the clutch? If so, sounds like the input shaft bearing(s) to me.

No. I'll explain a little more. If I'm in fourth going down the road I can slightly hear the noise. I push the clutch in and shift to third and it gets louder for a minute. Then, if I take it out of third, put it into neutral, and let off the clutch the sound goes away. Only neutral though, any other gear it will still make the noise.

Oh, and BTW. When I am shifting from third to neutral, it doesn't stop making the noise until I let off the clutch.

If you are idling at a stop, does the clutch make any "squeek" or grinding noises if you press it in and out?

Yes actually, it has for a long time though. At least a few months. Just squeeking, no grinding. I figured it was just a normal sound though, because its not that loud.
