That sucks to hear, before anyone else tells you,you guys shouldn't be topping out cars on public highways. Couldn't tell you anywhere to get fresh parts though.

Yes Toyota should fix this. My friend blew his motor in his 01 GTS with an accidental downshift from 5-2 instead of 5-4. Anyways, Toyota replaced the motor free of charge.

Got to love the start-up guarantee you get with swaps

Get a connection though someone at local Toyota dealership.
Sure you didn't downshift to 2nd, how fast were you going in 5th; now you can tell him if it was a honda it would have a better chance of survial. Anyway, toyota is damn good car too...

Re: we killed my friends 2001 GTS (JUN EK9)
wait so you downshifted from 6th gear into 4th gear.. @115mph... just by doing some calculation.. the stock redline on the vechile is 8000rpm?... so when he downshifted to 4th gear @115mph he would land at 8500rpm? is your friend retarded? I mean I'm sorry but that must of been the stupidest thing to do.. oh yeah well good luck anyways.. but just remember you can not downshift into 4th from 6th gear @ a higher speed than 109mph if the engine's drivetrain is stock
are you sure your friend didn't try to go into 3rd gear? because u can hit 9800rpm going 106mph in 3rd gear

hehe sorry fellas, I work for Toyota, and WE ALREADY KNOW what happened...our motors do not magically grenade themselves for no reason. The ECU logs everything, and you cannot reset it...We had a guy stupid enough to bring one in with 3rd and 4th out of the tranny, and 4 bent intake valves, talkin about " I don't know, it just got really loud under the hood" but was too stupid to take his Autometer tach with the recall off of the dash. My service manager sat down in the pass. seat and reached across the guy and hit the recall button, and that ****** jumped to 10,200...he told him to take his boat anchor and hit the ******* road...just a word of advice, we already know how this happens, please don't try to fool anyone...

Re: we killed my friends 2001 GTS (Extreme_Hybrid_Hatch)
Gee, he already took it to a dealer. He is in the "system." They have his VIN# logged, so it doesn't matter what ECU you use. Tell your friend to learn how to drive. People like him are a part of the reason we pay more $$ for parts. I know it's a 'yota but the same statement applies to all brands.

And you mean to tell me that not one single Toyota motor has ever blown up for no apparent reason ever? Please
