Re: wat are your thoughts on the d16y8...??? (SO[vtec]HC)
good power, good motor, but very weak bottom end, know of few motors which failed due main/rod bearing problems...
also there is no d16y8 cam offered by Zex or Crower yet, most are for d16z6...(even though you can use Zex cam (but a cam gear will be required))
what car is it going on???

since its a coupe, get a LS or B20B/Z swap and then turbo...why spend the $$$ on building up the weak bottom end...
get non-vtec swap and be done...sell your d16y8 and you be more then satisfied...

I think it's a great motor thats in the wrong car. the coupe is far to heavy to show off what it's capable of.

compared to a d16z6, i don't like it, heres why. D16y8 has 9.6:1 CR while z6 has 9.2:1. y8 has a better intake manifold, shorter runners. The head is shaped to combat detonation. The cam lobes are also better, primary and secondary. All of this and the y8 only has 2 more hp. The only reason for this I can think of is obd2, but then again I should also compare stock to stock dyno plots of each motor to see the whole torque curve and hp curve before makng up my mind.

d16y8 is 96-00 EX motor (si in canada)
P28 ECU= obdI (92-5) Civic Si/EX D16z6 ECU
who knows what's with 96+ EX improvements/upgrades over the 92-5 cars but there is almost not a thing that doesn't break ...none seems of usual honda quality...

Re: wat are your thoughts on the d16y8...??? (Meth)
I used to see a guy here at the Pomona Street Legals (when they were still around) with a 97 EX coupe with the D16Y8 turboed, can't tell you exactly what he had done to the motor but he ran consistent high 12's.
That was like 2 years ago, Iv'e seen him around on the streets driving every once in awhile (he has the loudest turbo civic I've ever heard on the streets) but it seems like his car's holding up pretty good. Keep in mind I don't know this guy personaly, just seen his car run, and seen the engine bay.
