I just swapped a vx into my dx hatch, and after a lot of waiting and trouble it finally wants to fire. I have been trying to start it for the last 2 hours, and every once in awhile itll backfire. A few times it actually revved up to 1k and then quit.

I cant think of anything else, so I need opinions.
I have fuel air and spark.

yes.

had like 3 gallons of gas thats like 3 years old, but I put in 5 of new today hoping to dilute it. thats the only thing I can think of, and Ill go ahead and add 5 more tomorrow of fresh. Im sure thats the problem, but I was hoping to see if anyone could think of something else that could be wrong.

so I took off the head again and lapped the valves since there was leakage in #3 intake valve seats. No more leaks in the seats, but it still wont start. It is now blowing some air out the dipstick hole when I do the leakdown and Im really hoping its not the rings.

anyone have any ideas?
I havent changed the spark plugs but thats what I might try next. these are pretty fouled.
