vtec problem with ecu p2p
i'm not sure what is in my car. I have an SI 99 with a SI 00 v tec motor in it but it's not working. I'm just not sure if my ecu is the right one, one that can control the vtec. it's a P2P and with the research i've done, the SI coupe ecu should be a P2T. P2P is for an EX EK civic with (vtec or not, i'm not sure).
I just wanna know if my ecu can control vtec cause at this time the vtec doesn't engage.
tks
ps I searched but I could find any good info on my problem.

actually after searching a bit more I found that that the p2p and the p2t are the same, it's just that the first is obd2a and the other is obd2b. If i'm not mistaken the only difference between the two are the wire configuration but both are vtec.

Wrong. P2P comes in OBD2A and OBD2B while P2T only comes in OBD2B. 96-98 Civic EX use OBD2A P2P while 99-00 Civic EX uses OBD2B P2P. Get yourself a P2T because the P2P was designed for a SOHC motor and will make your car run shitty.

Re: (snouka)
the main reason i'm asking this is because I wanted to know if this was the reason why my vtec didn't work. As far as I can see, it's not my ecu.
my oil is fine, there is no dent in the oil pan and the solenoid is working (tested it with the battery) , the ecu is fine also, what's next...
Should I try and make a manual switch to operate the solenoid. If yes, what is the fuse I should use, a 15 amp???

nop no cel. Maybe some bad wiring or there filter clogged up or bad oil pressure. thats why I wanna test it with a switch. If it works with the switch well then it means that the oil is fine and filter is ok.

Ok answer my question. Why do you think your VTEC is not working? Single cam vtec motors do not produce the same loud noise as the dual cam ones do when hitting vtec. My y7/y8 hybrid vtec motor doesnt produce a really loud noise at the crossover, but if you listen closely you can distinguish it.

we tried to opend the solenoid manually with a switch and test drove it and I dind't ''feel'' it. There was no difference between when the vtec was on with the switch on or when it was off by the switch being off. It's not that i can't hear it, I really don't care, I just wanna feel it.

Re: (snouka)
OBD2 is pretty picky - if VTEC weren't working, it'd throw a CEL. When the ECU activates an output, it looks for that device to draw some current and if no current was drawn, then the device is either faulty or there is an open in the wiring. If you took the engine up past VTEC activation and didn't get a CEL, you're probably just expecting too much out of the Ex VTEC.
My girl has a 00 Ex (bone stock) and when VTEC kicks in, you don't feel **** - you just feel a constant linear pull to redline - its transparent to say the least.
Have you tried unplugging the VTEC solenoid and then taking a test drive to see if the ECU will throw a CEL at that point?
