Which VTEC heads will fit my D15B7 (95 EG)?
Sup everyone. I'd like to change over to a VTEC head if possible to make some more power. What head do I need and from what engine can I get it from. Also, what else do I need to make the transition from my stock DX hatch non-vtec D15B7 to vtec head running monster?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Which VTEC heads will fit my D15B7 (Spade)
Thanks for the reply. Between those two, which is more tunable (sp?) for max power, which has the most aftermarket?
I did some research and found that '96 and later D16Y8 heads have a better combustion chamber design by way of quench areas. Is this true?
Also, what all will I need to do the conversion if I were to go with the Y8?
-head
-IM?
-TB?
-headers?
-VTEC solenoid, sensor (whatever)?
or what?
Thanks,
Reny

Yes, the Y8 has a better combustion chamber design...however, they cost more than the Z6's. And more cams are made for the Z6 than the Y8.
Head
IM
Trottle body (size. If you can try to get an Integra one...larger and bolt on)
Your stock headers will work.
The VTEC solenoid should come with the VTEC head.
VTEC ECU...prefer the p28 for OBDI cars.

Re: Which VTEC heads will fit my D15B7 (Spade)
-Thanks Spade, good info and fast too. Nice. I understand what I need, but...
I heard my IM will work, true or false?
Actually, don't I just need the Y8 head and the vtec solenoid and these should bolt right up to everything that's on my D15B7 right?
I guess I'm asking what is the bare minimal parts I need to get sway with this swap? I'm hoping, just the head and vtec soledoid and ofcourse whatever other neccessary part to make it work is all I need. If it can be done right using my IM, TB, belt, header, ECU, etc please let me know.
thanks again

I don't think your IM will work.. if you look at teh Vtec IM its totally different than the non Vtec Im... your TB is pointing up if I am correct.. the Vtec TB is sideways

Wow Reny
After reading this post, you've really got me interested in vtec'ing my d15 as well. Sounds like an interesting project. Anyone does this before? How much more power will we see from doing this??

Poison, that's an intoxicating remark. Or atleast I must be bent cause I haven't the slightest inclination as to what you mean.

and i was implying a small joke that if you changed the whole IM to the Z6, the TB is obviously not going to be sideways.

Re: Which VTEC heads will fit my D15B7 (WAFFLES)
Dude...on the SOHC VTEC engines, VTEC is only on the intake half of the engine.
If you do all this work, and then use your current intake manifold, you're going to be choking off the power that you're trying to add.
If you don't get the IM with the head, this whole mod is POINTLESS.

dude, what the hell are you talking about? Listen...the point of a sohc motor is that there is ONE camshaft controlling BOTH the intake and exhaust valves. When vtec is engaged, that camshaft switches to a more aggressive set of lobes...but still one camshaft controlling both. HOWEVER, the ex intake manifold is a must in upgrade, plus most people sell them with the head anyway. Get the IM....and swap your tranny when you get a chance

Re: Which VTEC heads will fit my D15B7 (95 EG)? (Reny)
BAH!
all 92-up Intake manifolds will bolt up to any 92-up dseries blocks.
i only see a slight problem with the Y7 intake manifold which is good for gas milage, but bad for performance. on the stock Y7 manifold the throttle body is mounted on top of the manifold and sucks air downward, whereas ANY other dseries throttle body and intake manifold sucks air in through the side. As far as I know All of the throttle cable pulleys are mounted the same way, but that should be the least of your worries since it is very easy to get up and running with little modification on any dseries TB (Y7 being the only exception) Either the Z6 or Y8 intake manifold is good for performance. Y8 being the best. for the D15B7 I would go with a milled Z6 head with a cam or a Y8 head with a custom regrind of the Y8 cam. Its all very simple. OR you can keep the D15B7 head and install a D16A6 camshaft, and you will be very please once you tune it with an adj cam gear.
using the Y8 manifold on the older 88-91 dseries is another story all together, there is a lot of cutting involved.

Re: Which VTEC heads will fit my D15B7 (EKology)
Um Mojo?
Please be quiet, but thanks for the links.
one.EG6,
me too, can someone completely verify this?
mafioso,
which is this "EX" manifold your talking about? Z6, Y8 or which?
methred_92,
thanks for your feedback on what's what. As far as a cam I'm not sure where to go yet. Maybe a regrind, maybe a custom...I have friends in the right places.
EKology,
...stop wasting your life away replying like a dumb-****. I'm here to learn about racing not trade elementary level jokes with you, ****-for-brains. I guess we can't all walk a warriors stride.

Re: Which VTEC heads will fit my D15B7 (Reny)
reny, im doing the swap right now, I have a 92 civic dx and I hear if you mill the head at all you need a cam gear to get the timing right, I got my d15 head off last night, and im putting the ex head on tonight, if I have any mistakes, you can learn from mine!, email me at JDM92Civic@aol.com and i'd be glad to help you all I can. And by the way any sohc IM will fit and the dx IM is the same damn thing, the FPR is different however.

Re: Which VTEC heads will fit my D15B7 (splitime)
JDM92,
Thanks, if I have any questions I'll e-mail you. Being that any IM will fit makes it a nice little weekend project maybe even a same day turn-around one.
I might just keep it non-vtec and buy a used B7 head, port and polish it and then swap it in place of the head on my car. Although vtec would be nice, it'd be less of a headache staying with the same *****.

jdm92,
Thanks for the good info, I might do the same swap w/my 93 dx, I will definitely benefit from your experioence, btw, how did u solve the FPR difference?
Thanks

Re: Which VTEC heads will fit my D15B7 (TYPE EG6)
cheap, easy, decently quick method(how mines set up anyhows):
1. Vtec Head(Z6) $100
2. Y8 intake manifold $ 75
3. 4-2-1 header $150
4. Cold air intake $ 50
5. Custom 2.5 exhaust $ 100
6. muffler $ 50
7. hi flow cat $ 50
8. homemade ram air $ 5
9. timing 17/18 deg FREE
10. jdm b16a ecu w/knock removed $150
730 bucks for the parts. You'll have to add some extra like head gasket, timing belt, water pump, clutch kit. Prob round a grand if you do it yourself.
i have this setup with an exedy clutch kit in my 89 CRX Si except i have the entire Z6 engine, it is pretty quick throughout the power band. I've had b16a's in my other cars and i have to say the Z6 really impressed me.If you want to spend some extra cash heres an additional setup i am gonna run in the next few months.
Zex street/strip cam
Adj cam gear/ fuel pressure regulator
Dyno time w/ the gear, Fields Vtec controller and fpr.
btw i think all the 5G FPR's are all the same pressure rating, i used a vx one and it runs at the si pressure.
