vtec-e studder hesistation
I got this vx recently with 98k on it from the original owner. It had a weird hesistation under 3 grand and partial throttle. If you bring it up past 3grand with a steady foot it kicks in and pulls good after that. Also in neutral it idles pretty low and seems to be missing.
I have put a new cap, rotor, plugs, wires, and fuel filter in it. What else could be causing it to do this. Piece of **** is pissing me off, and its barely getting 300 miles to the tank in a combination of city/highway driving.
I cant continue to go through it dumping all sorts of money on it because i plan on swapping it eventually anways. Where else to look besides maybe injector cleaner which i havent tried yet, but have never had luck with anyways.

your symptoms are normal. there is a tech bulletin for that. the weird hesitation is the ecu going from ultra lean to standard burn. the ecu is slow to react. the low idle is from the ecu reducing engine speed to save gas while waiting at a light. you will see that it also runs ultra lean at idle sometimes. 300 miles to a tank is about right for normal city driving that is mixed. once you get on the highway and cruise, you can get up to 400 someodd. the epa had this crazy number but i have never been able to obtain them. cleaning the injectors will help performance, make sure the air filter is clean. the air filter condition makes a big difference on this car.

I'll tell you one thing about those VX motors, things are tanks. Beat the **** out of mine for a year and a half hit the revlimiter more time then i can count. Back road bruising and "high-speedruns". Drove everywhere with a heavy foot and still got 30+mpg. Swapped the motor out when my waterpump gear sheered off when it was warming up one day

Re: (eXcelonTypeR)
damn, I barely get 200 miles on a tank in my 92 Si. Granted I have a B16A, but my foot isnt too heavy, and I have lots of freeway driving.

driving habits and the condition of the vehicle will make a big difference in fuel consumption. just carrying around extra junk in the car makes a difference...

Vtec-e, no need for paratheses, because it' s not fake vtec or anything, actually took honda a lot of work to get it done right...and it is engaged up til 3k, it disengages at 3k. 12 valve engine under vtec-e, reduced pumping losses and leans the thing out.

I have already changed oil, put in a new fuel filter, plugs, and air filter and still can only get 250 miles on a full tank. What else could i do to help?

If you're only getting 250 you prolly need to do something serious, cuz that's fucked up, should be able to get like 40 mpg out of one of those things easily.

250 a tank is ok if you sprint around and don't drive like a slug. if you want better milage, make sure you are using 87 octane and shifting when the shift light comes on. don't press on the gas more than 50% when accelerating.

Re: (littleredcivic)
haha i also have a VX, that Z1 is seriously a SOLDIER!! i have coupled it with a EX (candian Si) tranny since a bearing grenaded in my long *** VX tranny and now im eating any econo car on the road, rev-limit shifts, crazy rev-limit-handbraking doghnuts accelerating to redline through corners....that ****** just doesnt die, too bad its going to be replaced by a GS-R in spring

Re: (Sleepy_Red_hatch)
i'll shock all of you guys.
i too have a VX... but mines TURBO! hahah... yeah, i took my 92 with just over 228K and turbo'ed it with a DSM T25.
even though i went through issues of the E-VTEC and my EMS, i switched over to the P28 and ran uberdata.. when i enter VTEC, it hesitates VERY notiabely. its nature of the beast.
im running around on 7 PSI and have NO regreats.
if i take it easy, i too am getting close to 300 miles per tank.

Re: (Built B16A)
im also searching around the boards trying to find an answer to fix this hesitation. i know what the car is doing... as someone else stated. the ECU is going from econo burn, to "haul *** mode", and its switching over.
so what i want to either do, is write a new basemap resembleing a DX and lock those other 4 valves in all the time.
with my EMS, i can disable VTEC, so i might do that.

Re: (Built B16A)
bad injectors cause misfire.
It's something that many people overlook because it's not as easy to change.
I remember on my old 240, injectors were prone to always go bad

im only getting 27 mpg with my 92vx, it sucks, no power, and no economy, time for a swap. i got a bad o2, and i can get a z6 swap for $600, i would rather do that than spend $350 on an o2.
