Default Vtec-E ??

How does the Vtec-e work compared to regular Vtec? I know that it is supposed to be tuned for economy , but what about performance? can I put in a 1.6 cam and vafc to gain some ponies ? Thanks!

with vtec-e you dont have a dedicated vtec cam lobe like you do with regular vtec. with vtec-e the primary and secondary lobe profiles differ in that the secondary lobe is low lift and duration (it barely opens only to keep fuel from puddling behind the valve). when vtec-e engages it locks the primary and secondary rocker arms together so the both operate off the primary cam lobe. e stnds for "enhanced" not economy btw. does this help you understand? i dont know of anyone that makes a cam for the -e. you cant use a z6 or y8 cam because the -e is a roller set up and the z6 and y8 are not. the -e also only has 16 cam lobes where the z6 and y8 have 20. maybe someone else knows of a company that makes a cam. as far as the vafc i think they are over rated as far as power gains (minimal).

You have to get a custom cam.
Its better off to kept the engine stock and swap out the tranny for an EX tranny. NICE Difference.

Wow, great info! After reading the link I was still thinking that I could swap in the 1.6 cam but NUB cleared that up for me. So basically I should just save for a b18c. My goal is to keep it NA and make 200WHP I drive 60 mi a day so reliability is KEY Spade: I take it the EX tranny has different gear ratios?

Thanks !

Yes the EX tranny has much tighter gear ratios than the HX.

Those who have swapped a HX tranny for a EX tranny have dropped anywhere from .75 to a full second off of their 1/4 mile time.
