Post Vtec doesnt kick in! Why?

So i have a 93 Civic Hatch with a d16y8 1.6 sohc vtec in it. and everytime i want to hit vtec, it just doesnt kick in. When i get to the rpm's that my vtec is supposed to kick in, it just doesnt pass the rmp. it stays there and makes a rough noise. and if i pressures it it will start smelling burnt. Any Ideas why is doing this?

Check oil levels/pressure? Lots of different factors are required to make VTEC activate. This is a basic one.
operating temp, vehicle at speed and correct oil pressure. all these things are needed to active vtec.

Should come on for 2 seconds when you put the key to the ON position.

VTEC fluid.. that's funny. But it doesn't help the guy at all. Go to the "Check Engine Light (CEL) Codes and How to's) sticky. Get your CEL to blink a code. BE PATIENT while trouble shooting. All you need to know is in that sticky it's a very easy process to get a code.. I used a thick paper clip. If your CEL doesn't come on at all the pull out your gauge cluster n figure out if it's even plugged in. Hope this helps you in some way.

Yes it does.

"Vtec fluid" is oil. Vtec is oil based, there for no oil,=no vtec/very unhappy engine.
