I have recently installed a set of Skunk2 coilovers on my 97 Honda Civic HB and a set of 15" Rota Slipstream with kumho Ecsta 20550 tires from Modacar.com. For two weeks now I have been experiencing vibration on the steering wheel when going 65MPH+. At first I thought it was the tires because their new so I waited for couple of days for the tires to worn out a bit but the problem did not go away. I checked the coilovers sleeves for looseness and they were all tight. I cheked the both the axles and they are in good condition. I don't know what else is causing this vibration and I don't feel like spending $$$ on alignment, but I guess I have to keep my ride run smooth, huh?

I would really appreciate your take on this one.

Is this vibration constant? Get worse with more speed? Get worse when you apply the brakes?

Are the tires out of balance, maybe??? Ever thought of that? Also it could be your tires. Sometimes tires may be what they call "out of round". An alignment wont really help with any type of vibration. Alignments are most for when a car is pulling to either the left or right when driving on a straight road. Take it to your nearest tire shop and have them check the balance on your wheels...

it sounds like he has new tires, unless they're deffective or mounted wrong, I doubt they're out of round.

My boss's cavalier used to vibrate over 80, a minimal problem in alignment was the kicker.

Sounds like the tires need to be balanced like everyone else said. If it were an aligment issue, your car will steer to one side or the other. Go to a local used tire shop, shouldn;t cost more than 20 bucks for all. Good luck.

Alignment. Rather obviously. Are you serious? A new suspension setup and no alignment? Dude, if you can spend however much on new coilovers and rotas and whatever else and you cant buck up to get an 80 dollar alignment sell your car. There are many more symptoms of needing an alignment other than just the car pulling in one direction, VIBRATIONS AT HIGH SPEEDS being one of them.

no this is not always true. Your car will not always pull to one side when out of alignment. You have to worry about toe and camber... If it didn't do it before you installed your suspension stuff, it is most likely allignment. And if you don't want to spend the money to get it aligned, use some friends measurement tools to figure out the current status of all your wheels.

couldnt you guys also be forgetting about the tie rods. i know when mine were bad it shook like hell,, and i didnt notice it until it was lowered...sounds strikingly familiar,.

Being out of alignment doesn't HAVE to mean you get pulled to one side.

he said he has new tires, the probability of them being out of balance is questionable, they should have been balanced at the shop that put them on.

Yes but youre tie rods were bad then. That is a different problem. When a car is out balance by the slightest weight it will vibrate. Alignment you always, always feel a pulling. The car would not drive straight.

Not if your toe is a little off. Your car won't always pull. it can be off to such a small degree that you wont notice a pull, but your tires and ride will still suffer.

Get a camber kit, get an alignment and get your tires balanced if they arent already

interesting, i'm getting a vibration over 60mph too, gets worse then goes away after a while.. I have new outer tie rods. I have a feeling its the inners. I'v balanced the wheels twice now and it still vibrates...

I was told that the tires were balanced prior to shipping, so I figured not to worry about that. The reason why I don't want to take the car for alignment is because when I had my 2000 Si with Tein full suspention coilovers, I had to take it to the alignment center 2-3 times and nothing was fixed. But you all right , if I can spend $$$ on coilovers and rotas why not take the car for alignment.

The car does not pull to one direction, it's just the vibration that annoys me. The vibration comes and go, and when brakes are engaged it does not vibrate at all. Also, the car underwent state inspection a month ago and nothing was said about the tie rods.

I called Modacar.com to double check just now they said the tires were balanced. I guess alignment center is my next stop, if vibration remains, i'll buy a camber kit.

You're inspection won't cover the tie rods.

Get an alignment, it shouldn't cost you $40-80.

And DON'T go to whatever alignment shop you went to and had poor results, go to a good one. Perhaps a goodyear or a justbrakes.

its probbley the wheel barrings cause thats the same problem i have and its the wheel barrings. those need to be replaced

The best place to start would be getting your tires balanced and an alignment. Considering you just installed your coilovers, a balance and alignment could simply fix your problem, hopefully. If not then you know for sure its something more serious.
