Hello All,

I have a ’98 Civic EX. I'm getting the P0141 (65) code (Secondary Heated O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Fault) from my car. I've changed the sensor twice, both with universal sensors from Pep Boys. I've got the standard aftermarket I/H/E on the car and the CEL has been on for quite some time; OEM cat. I hate paying someone to fix these problems because I like solving the problems myself. I've looked on the net and some have said that the ECU may be blown or the cat could be bad. I had the cat checked about a year ago and the shop said it was cool. I would just go out any buy another $80 sensor but this would be the third time and it hasn't solved any problems in the past. I just replaced the sub-wire harness that the o2 sensor connects to so all the wires on the sensor are connected properly. I’ve let this problem go on long enough and now I am in need of fixing it because tabs are due soon and I have to do the stupid, waste of money and inconvenient emissions test. Thanks for any help.

did you reset the ecu after you replaced the o2? you should use the ngk o2 sensor. imo

From everything I've read, parts store 02 sensors suck on a Honda. For more 02 info:

i dont know if it would work in your situation, but maybe just go on e-bay and get one of those 10$ CEL bypass's. I put one on my civic to cover up the test pipe, and it works so maybe worth a try?

Thanks. I looked over most of this forum before I posted and came across that post earlier; the prices are decent. I've contacted a few stores and Honda and the all say the same thing, once I install the sensor it's mine; no returns. Therefore, I would hate to buy the sensor and still have a CEL. I've reset the ECU and did the other common checks. I was wondering what the heater circuit failure specifically was. What I need to do is get my hands on a multimeter, but I don't have much experience with them. ie: What wires to test, Where to put the test probes, ect. The CEL came on right after I installed the headers. I appreciate the responses. Thanks.

I had the same problem with my 97 dx after doing i/h/e. I had to replace my secondary o2. It threw CEL 65. after 2 universals from an import place I went to http://www.oxygensensors.com and pick up a denso plug and play for 80 buck. been over a year and no problem.

Thanks guys. I've got my hand on a multimeter so I'll give that a whirl tomorrow and see whats up. This little CEL is pissing me off but it's all good, gets me to read and learn. Any one brand of O2 sensor sticks out? I've used two Bosch and neither have worked very well. Thanks.
