Re: Vanishing Coolant Trick! .....help
i had the same problem on my 94 lx, it was a headgasket issue, not a bad headgaskett, but warpped head, one way to test that is fill your radiator, take off the lid and see if any bubbles come up in the radiator if there are bubbles your headgasket/head is toast

yeah. and try to do a compression test it should be pretty even all the way through. remember water doesnt compress. so if water is getting dragged in to a cylinder it would mark lower..

OK. Now my head hurts even more.
I got a compression test done and it came back positive.
Mechanic said it's def. not my head gasket.
He did a pressure test and found no leaks of coolant.
So everything is working like it should.
My oil is perfect as well as my spark plugs.
He said everything looks good so he doesnt know where my coolant is going.(hes not a honda pro).
So my question is... Where is my coolant going?
Anyone who helps me figure out the problem gets 1 million dollars

There's a clue in there someplace where you said your heater doesn't work. It should, when you try it with a totally filled cooling system. Maybe the water pump isn't working very well (just a guess). I don't know how you could check it though. Also I'd check the cap and little hose going to the overflow bottle. I've seen cars where the coolant would expand out of the cap but the little hose had a hole and the radiator couldn't suck the coolant out of the tank when the car cooled down.

It's possible that when you replaced the coolant you didnt get all of the air out of the heater core. This could have happened two ways:
The valve that controls coolant going into the heater core may be bad or it may be flowing very very poorly.
When you put the new coolant in did you turn the heat on full with the front of the car jacked up with the engine running? That's the best way to get all the air out. How many times have you had to refill the coolant overflow?

Did you ever check the water pump?
OP says he adds 1 pint of coolant every 2 days. The heater core holds less than a pint of coolant.
If the head gasket is fine, there must be a leak.

Re: Vanishing Coolant Trick! .....help
I have had the same prob many times. My car would almost overheat but couldn't find any leaks. Turns out there was a pin hole in one of the coolant lines on the back side of the manifold. Next time I had no heat, could smell coolant. Finally my pass side carpet got wet. I had a small crack in my heater core. This last time car ran warm. No leaks found. I had to add coolant once a week. I then had a comp test done. It showed a bad head gasket. I would prob check your heater core, and look for a pin hole leak in one of the back side hoses. I didnt find mine untill I let the car run, then rev the motor. I could then see the coolant drip. While driving, the coolant would spray out then dry before I could see the leak. Hope some of this helps.

Re: Vanishing Coolant Trick! .....help
check it out. common places are under the distributor from the hose that is a return of the heater hose. and check under the passenger side of your dashboard. look at the carpet to see if its moist.

Re: Vanishing Coolant Trick! .....help
and you've examined the heater core and associated connections using the light? the fact that your heat is not working (i assume at any point, right?) is troublesome considering you are losing coolant too.

Underneath the Intake Manifold theres a coolant pipe about 40/50 diameter, running the length of the block, check either end of the pipe as sometimes the rubber o-ring seals perish and because of where the pipe is the coolant can leak onto the air cooling cast lines on the back of the block and just burn away without even hitting the ground.hope u figure it out

Re: Vanishing Coolant Trick! .....help
like i said before, i believe it's the headgasket.
1 - you can't find a leak, therefore it is likely being consumed
2 - the engine is overheating
3 - your heat does not function
a hg can blow in many ways. yours seems to be consuming coolant as well as introducing combustion gases into the coolant lines and pressurizing them. when this happens it prevents the waterpump from moving the coolant around the engine and you end up with an engine overheating and no heat in the car. i've had a car that this happened to first hand and i would be quite suprised if this is not your problem.
if you weren't losing coolant i would be more inclined to say the waterpump is bad, but waterpumps don't consume coolant.

Re: Vanishing Coolant Trick! .....help
So I've been having overheating problems for a while. I fixed all the problems that I could find. What is going on now is that after about 2 days i have to add some coolant(about 1 pint). After I top off the coolant my temp stays normal. But if the coolant keeps getting low I figure its gotta be leaking. So I bought some uv dye, a BRIGHT uv light and those FANCY yellow glasses and started searching. I ran the car till it got hot and looked while it was running and when it cooled down. I cant find a leak anywhere.
Any ideas?
Any ideas?
Head gasket.

Re: Vanishing Coolant Trick! .....help
I replaced the radiator last night and my problem seems to be fixed.
I had a couple mechanics check my car out and both said my head gasket is 100% fine.
But I still don't know where my coolant was going, I never found a leak.
With the new radiator it doesn't lose coolant.
Thanks for all the suggestions. If my problem comes back I will update.
