Mine does that too. My mechanic said to do a valve lash and that should fix it. I'm getting it done monday so if it works I will let you know.

The noise going up hills is detonation from using cheap gas and/or from worn ignition componets like plugs, cap, wires, rotor or a timing issue.

Then your running a lower octane gas with advanced timing and pulling a load, hearing a slight detonation is to be expected.

Try a half a tank of 91-93 and see if it goes away. If it does you know the problem and can try 89.
