Is usdm popular in japan?
I was thinking the other day about how a lot of Honda owners are crazy about jdm parts and I was wondering if its the opposite in japan where they're crazy about usdm parts.
Just a thought, since part of the reason people in america like jdm because it's unusual, considering those parts aren't stock with our cars.So I figured maybe it's the other way around in Japan.

Re: Is usdm popular in japan?
I've never been to Japan, so I can't comment on exactly how popular the USDM scene is over there, but it seems to be pretty popular. I've seen hundreds of pics people have posted on various forums, of cars from Japan that were modified to make them look "USDM". The "west coast car show"/"rice" (big wings, body kits, lambo doors, crazy paint jobs, coffee can mufflers, etc) look is very popular over there, and is taken to the extreme. I'm sure if you do a search for japan car shows (not so much the official ones), you'll see what I'm talking about. Again I'm just basing my answer of the things I've seen online.

for example.
i own a 2000 si. my car didnt come with abs and came with some ugly asssss seats so basically looks like the EX motor except for the engine. at least make the car look sportier.
i bet in japan the type r version was hella sick

(via the chronicles)
USDM does make an impact over there. To the dude who was jokingly saying that they do USDM front end conversions on JDM ones, take a look in the vid. Because it sure seems like they do.

there is a subculture of cars that are riced out, american rice style. i still maintain japanese rice is awesome.
ive seen a couple guys there rocking lhd accords and **** like that. suburbans and escalades are popular, and the 300c can be found in the vip scene. american muscle cars are around.

Motor wise, I would think not, they get better versions of all of them. But I bet things like bumpers with no plastic trim and some other visual stuff is sometimes used. People just like to be outside of the norm.

The race crowd in Japan is very different from the crowd in America... Rarely will you ever see someone drag racing a Honda in Japan. Hell, modifying Honda engines in Japan is rare enough and a B20 VTEC is still only in the magazines.

I believe this is the thread you're looking for. This guy has all kinds of pictures of Hondas in Japan.
He said people even put side moldings on their Integras to look USDM!
