pro's are obviously more horsepower becuase it takes lass power from the motor to drive the accesories.

Cons: a small altnater that is on our engines can cause a charging problem, i haven't had any problems out of my AEM pulleys but i did notice that my volts can drop down if i have my lights and radio on at an idle, but when you give it gas while driving the volts jump back up to 14 or so. nothing to really worry about though.

I heard a couple things.

1. CHEAP pulleys are made poorly balanced and throw off your timing and wear on your motor.

2. Smaller pulleys can lead to various problems (including charging) and wear on your motor over time. Lighter is good, just smaller is bad.

yeah but underdrive pulleys have been around for a while, and i don't just mean for imports and sport compacts. If this was a major problem i think it woud have been issued at some point or another. But i agree that cheap pulleys probably are not balanced and that could maybe wear on the belt or shaft bearings that it is rotating but not the timing. I'll believe that it affects the motor in a major way when i see it or you can explain it and it sound reasonable to me.

1) if the original poster had searched, he'd have found hundreds of threads on these

2) some of the people answering the question are getting their facts mixed up. The accessory pulleys (which is what the poster says he has) are not going to damage the engine or "throw off his timing". Naturally, it would be ideal to have good tolerances and balance, but it's not as essential as it would be on a crank pulley.

There is some debate about the safety of running a lightweight crank pulley, but all you'll be doing is underdriving the alternator, and possibly the PS pump. You'll see dimmer lights when idling, have trouble charging your battery if you have a big "system", and will gain a very slight amount of power in return.

If you lighten your crankshaft pulley or any other pulleys you must consider your damper which balances out your crank, all your stock pulleys are a specified weight to balance your crank out and if you lighten one side and have your stock damper you can cause unwanted friction on your crank which can cause serious damage in some cases. Check out http://www.fluidampr.com you may want to check this out.

I have an AEM, I was wondering, Iknow a smaller crank pulley is bad, but would just taking off the extra grooves [PS A/C] to save weight be bad also? It's still the same size, just lighter.
