Short shifter's arn't tranny killers... Shifting like an idiot is. Instead of the Type-R shifter go with a Skunk 2 Dual Bend.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Basing your decision to not get a SS because you've heard that they are tranny killers is unfounded information. Shortshifters do not kill trannies, shifting like an ******* all the time kills trannies.
Now then, that being said, for B-series, I've heard good things about the stock shifters with a weighted **** for DD's. Also, my bud's GSR (while it was operating, prior to the VAFC incident) had a Skunk2 shortshifter with the weighted shiftknob. It is what made me decide to get exactly that on my car. Great shifter, and in no way is it too light.
IMO, both of the above are good choices, and in the end, it comes down to time and money. The cheaper, and still satisfying route would be to just get a weighted **** for your stocker. However, the Skunk2 will shorten shifts moderately, and provide some good positive shifting. Heard nothing but good things about either choice.
