Default Two diff del Sol tire sizes??

I have a 94 del Sol, and am about to get new tires.

The car has a VTEC emblem on it, but I believe the D16Z6 and the VIN says its just an Si. (and after research with the FAQ, its confirmed as an Si)

It has the Sol fat-5 14" rims.

My question is, why is there a difference in 14" tire sizes for the two models?

Si =185/60/14
VTEC= 195/60/14

Anyone know?

the different tires sizes are due to differences in the suspension. run the tire size that matches your car. 185/60/14 or something close to it with similar overall diameter. it is not related to engine size

I run the 195's on my 93 Del Sol Si, car runs fine just get a good alignment and remember your speedo will be faster than you're actually travelling by about 3 mph

Just use size 195/55 14

Notice the 55 and not 60 which will put it closer to the exact height of your stock size

Running through a speed trap that notes your speed my speedo is only off 3 mph

I have the same exact car as you and from experience I like the handling characteristics of the 195 vs. the 185s

Your SI suspension can handle the tire with great ease and you'll notice a nicer feel to the car

There should be a sticker in your car (probably glove compartment) that tells you the stock tire size of your car. Getting another size, other than what came stock, will throw your speedometer off.

I have a 95 S that came with the stock size 175//70/13" but I've been running 195/60/14 in the summer and 185/60/14 winter tires for several years. Overall, I like the handling of the wider 195's but the thinner ones work better with snow tires.

Thanks for the info guys!

I knew it would throw off the spedo, but I wasn't sure which way it would read.

I'll just go for stock.

(makes me think of the new Honda commercial "Are those FACTORY RIMS?"
"Oh the wheels?? STOCK!" *with a huge grin*)

The formula for figuring out tire diameter is the width 17.5 divided by 2.54 times the aspect ratio .70 time 2 plus the rim size 13.
So
a 175/70/13 is 17.5/2.54*.70*2+13=22.65
Just make sure your close and it keeps your speedo close.

I suggest keeping the same trend you got going. Possibly look into upgrading to a 15" rim if you want more performance. Si rims look nice on a del

Wow, just because math is not you thing, you bust on someone that has shown how to do the math to calculate tire heights. This is now saved for anyone to see and is a good thing. Math is your friend.

Please don't bump old threads. Those users may not even be around anymore to see your displeasure.

As well, everyone else can see the same thing you did without you pointing it out. There is not a productive reason to respond.
