Turbo vs. All Motor which is better for my b16a2?
The search server was "temporarily unavailable" when I posted this so sorry if there is already a post for this if so please direct me.
Doing a b16 swap and looking to get about 300hp out of it. But which is the better road to travel? If i went turbo I would go greddy 18g (please dont tell me go drag or revhard bc I wont) If i went all motor I would do all the internals individual throttle bodies and Im not sure what else.
So heres the question
All motor or turbo better an why? whats involved with both what would I need?
Take into acount the cost. Im thinking turbo may be better but how much more is it going to cost me? and i know you have to run higher octane gas in a turbo set up what about all motor that could be even more money?
Also take into acount relieability. This will be a daily driver so I want something reliable and that isnt going to get me killed bc of blowing up ect.
I am somewhat of a noob when it comes to motors so im hear to learn. school me! thanks everyone

building all motor will cost more and you wont get as much hp, but turboing is cheaper and will get u better power gains, with a b16 i recogmend using a smaller turbo, like a smaller t3/t4 or maybe even a t3 for a cheap set up, smaller displacement = more lag, do research on yahoo

Re: (originalsin)
cost doesnt matter all that much im trying to keep it in the ballpark of 5k i was thinking that if i got a turbo i should replace internals anyway so would it still be as expensive?
reminder turbo would be greddy 18g
all motor would be ???? help me out

i say go all motor. if u do it urself u'll learn a lot more by rebuilding ur engine rather than just bolting on a turbo.

You almost have no choice if you are looking for 300 whp.

Non existant. To get 300whp out of a B16A2 is going to be much more involved and damn near impossible.

Re: (Ricey McRicerton)
i guess its not so much hp im looking for but torque. I just want to be able to contest against mustangs and some others. I want my tires to chirp on every shift

You're not going to get 300 all motor and be streetable. If you think we're wrong, go to a import drag event and what the all motor class. Listen to there motors. The only way you could pull it off is if you're planing on dropping in a NSX motor

it'll be MUCH more expensive and there's no guarantee you're going to get 300 crank hp out of a b16 without turning it into a 2 liter

Exactly right..... $5000 wouldn't even come close to getting you near 300hp on a B16 (NA), even the Mr Gasket "The Beast" motor for $10,000 doesn't pump out 300hp so you might as well forget the possibilty of going the NA route NOW.
As for turbo, all you'd need internally is a set of rods, a block guard and a set of pistons, a tuning system like Hondata and you'd be well on your way to a solid and reliable 300hp on boost.

This isn't really a true statement if the turbo is sized correctly.
