turbo d, or b20 swap
ok, what i am trying to decide is whether i should turbo the z6 with a first gen mistu turbo and blah blah blah(basically homemade, nothing built special blah blah blah) or if i should do a b20 swap with a gsr tranny, i know that neither are that great, cuz the b20 is kinda lacking on compression and hp, and the z6 is of couse a single cam piece. i have the money to do both, thats not a problem(not trying to be an ***, just letting you know my situation) but if i do the d series, it wont be built in any way, i know it proly wont be that reliable and i wont be able to hang with the big boys, but i will be able to woop up one the pieces of **** i hang with, i will basically be just the turbo and intercooler, with fuel upgrades(ie, injectors, wideband, pump, rail, just the basics.) if i do the b20, it will also be stock, but i know it will of course be a better platform to build on, with more aftermarket support than the z6. what should i do? thanks for your help. later,

depends on your budget buddy... if your z6 is still in perfect condition.. no oil leaks or anything.. id go with the homemade turbo kit... install it and run at 6 - 8 psi for fun but to be safe.

Re: (EG_Nhan)
ok, but like i said, when it comes to the two, it dont really matter, im just stuck between what i want to do. i got the money to do both, and the z6 is in perfect shape, got it with less than 30000 on it,(has about 42---now) no leaks, all new pumps, etc. just wantin yall opinion on the two. has anyone done both? which would you prefer? do i need to change the ecu if i run boost or will the stock read the extra airflow and compensate, or will it say"oh ****, what the hell is going on?" and throw a CEL? thanks for your opinions and info in advance. later,

sarcasm? too many d's for sale now and days.
i'd go for turbo d as well, a z6 with a y8 trans preferably.
cheapest engine to build and work with, d series ftw

In the South East, I have been looking everywhere for a decent d16 or d15. I couldn't find ****.
I ordered a d15b from a importer because I got tired of looking for a decent running block and got sick of my pistons being on back order from honda.

In Australia D's are just rotting away.. no one builds them or does anything to them, everyone just rips them out and drop a B,H,K in... btw i have a d15b sitting around doing nothing... hehe

that sucks, you have some awesome d series build ups
if only there were more d's around there, then you could make more d series build threads

Re: (knockout)
thinkin a turbo d sounds like the way to go. turbo setup, fuel upgrades, and chipped+tuned ecu running 6-8 lbs sound good? anything else that i should think about doing for a decently powered, somewhat reliable car? btw, this is NOT a daily driver.

Re: (knockout)
what program/ecu should i run? thought about just chippin it instead of a full hondata and stuff, but then i thought, WHAT BRAND? any suggestions on who to tune it? i live in sc? could drive a little ways to have it properly tuned, but on a stock setup im not lookin for a expensive *** tuner ya know? i just really want it to be reliable and fun.

thats not right ...the b20z has those specs with the p8r head cause its got vtec sized valves and higher compression...the stock b20b has 8.8 compression and puts down like 120 something hp and 130 something tq...i also read an article about the b20z's being reallin underrated from the factory and puttin more power to the wheels stock than the stock hp to the flywheel

Re: (slodel)
you'll have more fun with the turbo D and be faster, BUT if you plan on sinking more money down the road, i hear CR-Vtec-T civics are extremely fun too

I am going to have to go with a B20. I have a B20Z2 in my 93 DX Hatch and it's mated with a B16 tranny. I will say that the only thing stock on the motor is the block. It's all motor and with 14 inch slicks I have managed to run a 8.80 in the 1/8th. I am still untuned and will be swapping a few parts but after it's said and done I am looking for 160-170 whp.
