Trustworthy Places to Buy Motors?
Just what it says. Where are some trust worthy sites, shops, or places to buy a motor that you may know of??
With relatively low miles (35,000 ish).
All I have in mind right now is HMO, but it seems like most people are getting them from considerably cheaper places...
And no thanks to junk yards. BTW, I'm looking into an LS swap.
Just asking the site of all Honda knowledge. If you find yourself not knowledgeable, or perhaps just an a-hole. Feel free to not post.

Re: Trustworthy Places to Buy Motors?
I know HMO is the most legit, but it is also the most expensive by far...
The LS B18B runs for $2,200 on HMO for the complete change over. Which is completely over priced.
Other sites have them for around $600-1000. Like jdmenginedepot for example... not that I have ever heard of that site.
The whole point of this swap is to keep it rather low budget.
And why would I spend that on an weak LS when H22's are running the same price??
That's my set back on HMO.

Re: Trustworthy Places to Buy Motors?
yes i agrre. HMO does cost alot. but that is because their product is the best out there.
EVERYTHING on there is good because they check every part. sensors, gaskets, bearings, etc. that is why so many ppl buy from there. and they are friendly as well as knowledgeable about their products.
there is an old saying that comes into mind
"you get what you pay for"

I know. I guess I just find myself unwilling to pay 2 grand for a motor most people buy for half that.
I guess I'll just stick with the old saying "patience is a virtue."
If anyone is selling an LS motor with less than 65000 miles, please contact me.

I'm in the same boat. I would recommend craigslist and buying local.
If you live near a Jspec importer then you could possibly go check it out before purchasing. That is one advantage to a local pickup.

I went to TigerJapanese in person when I was looking to buy one of their JDM 92 hatches. They have a lot of nice JDM imports, actually. I also went on a separate occasion to buy a D15B transmission. Both times I went, the guys working there were brown.

Re: Trustworthy Places to Buy Motors?
Yeah, I see a lot of posts on craigslist for 500-$1000.
I think getting the motor properly checked out is whats important.
If I find a good deal I know I will have saved about a thousand dollars.
iliv2xlr8 if you end up finding a place with good prices please tell me. I will do the same.

A. Dealing with a well known reputable company
B. Dealing with an individual in person so you can see the engine, see compression numbers, or better yet, see it run before it is pulled for purchase.
My best advice would be to be patient. I am driving my D15 Auto around and it goes like a champ. I often have to remind myself that there will be much less headaches and money spent later by taking my time and doing things right the first time.
