Default trouble shifting from park

I'm having a problem with my 93 civic ex.
Just got it, and I literally have to pull as hard as i can to get it out of park.
Can't see anything really binding up the linkage, and just replaced the fluids.
Any ideas as to what else it could be?

I had this problem in my 88 teg. Turns out the shift cable frayed just inside the cabin-side exit of the tube. Basicly, I could go into all gears past neutral, park/reverse were impossible to get into. $218 dollar part from the dealer, since boneyard dicks usually just cut the cable to remove the tranny.

Open up the console section and physicly move it & look it over; however, it sounds like its on the opposide end of where mine broke.

I would unhook the cable from the trans side and try shifting then proplem goes away is on that end of the cable if not then you narrowed it down. If it dosent unhook it from the shifter and then try and that should tell you where the proplem is, if its the cable I cant belive its over $200 but I can easily be wrong on that I never priced one most of the seals for my del sol arent that much! If its the cable you can try putting some lube on the cable it may have just run dry and thats causing your proplem.

Now before you go and spend over $200 in parts, try this. Have someone stand behind your vehicle hit the brakes. Tell them to let you know if they see the brake lights come on. Of course try this a couple of times repeatedly hit the brakes. If they don't see brake lights you need a brake light switch. Less than $200, located behind your brake lever that the pedal is connected to. If they can, then your good with the switch. Very common problem with Civic, Odyssey, all Hondas alike. Hope that helps.

This happens because the bad switch is not sending a signal to let the trans move out of park.
