Default Tropical Storm Billy sucks a** NEED HELP ASAP

OK, yesterday i went surfing because of the tropical storm, and on the way home i let a friend drive because i was dead tired. I have a ram air intake on (NO BYPASS VALVE) and it sucked up some water. Now when i drive my car at steady throttle or barely on the gas my whole car jerks and feels like it is bogging down. But when i stomp on the gas it runs fine. I need to know whats wrong with it and how to fix it. Please help

How did it get water in it? Are you sure it is water in the engine that is causing this problem?

replace your plug wires and plugs and that will take care of that. i had that happen to me when i was cleaning my engine bay my wires got wet and i replaced them no more bogging.

pop open the distributor and see if the rotor and cap have gone bad (bubbles on them) probably water got up in there some odd way or another and caused them to arc and now it runs like **** unless under load....could be same for the plug wires/plugs if water got on those contacts as well...

if you honestly think it's water in the combustion chamber which I doubt as you would have hydrolocked and then the engine wouldn't even run...then pull the plugs out, toss an towel over the valve cover and crank the engine over for a little bit. then toss new plugs in and after you clean off the engine from any gas/water/etc that might have made it past the towel, crank it up and see...

Surf was awesome (for the gulf coast at least) a foot to two overhead through out the day. Little mushy here and there but well worth it, now i have to get back to where i can actually drive normal.

unhook the ecu fuse for about a minute and all will be fine...it'll reset the ecu which clear the code.

OK boys, i have changed the plugs and wires, same thing is happening. I havent had time to look at the distributor. But the only time it sputters is when traveling at a constant speed or very slow acceleration. Full throttle is no problems at all. Is their a chance my first o2 sensor could play a part in this because i couple of weeks ago i tied my air fuel ratio in, and i didnt know if water might of gotten to an open wire. Just a possibility. Thanks again

ok i talked to one of mechanic friends locally and he says is sounds like a have a little bit of water round the pistons, hence water doesnt compress that well, but i need some ideas on how to dry it out, easily and low-cost. any of ya had this problem and what did ya do. thanks

I might be alone here, but this theory sounds just short of friggin impossible to me. If you had any water that wouldn't compress in your block, something would break (hydraulicking your motor) and if there was only a tiny bit of water around your pistons it would burn off once the engine started during the combustion process. It sounds to me like you got some of the electrical connections wet under there (alternator and the like) just give it a day or two to dry out, and all should be fine

I did the same thing w/ mine. It started to studder alot after i ran thru a big puddle and stalled it. It ended up being my primary O2 sensor. Rick

no code was thrown, but i didnt notice the little block under my speed that says matenance and is now in the red, use to be in the green. Bad thing is if it is my primary o2, for an HX civic since it uses a 5-wire o2 it would cost me 400 dollars to replace it. Tell me that doesnt suck. D*** economy v-tec

let me know what's wrong with it when you find out b/c my car is doin' just about the same thing your's is....when i and drivin' and put it in neutral to let it idle as i come to a stop sometimes it stalls and some times it drops to like 100rpm and then back to 750 and back to 100...almost like i have a vaccuum leak but it doesn't do it all the time just sometimes....i replace my plugs, coil, cap, and rotor button and it is still doing it....

Water could have gotten on the conection were you tapped into for your air fuel gauge, and shortered the 02 out.... My geuss is the 02...... just my 2 cents...
