Default Transporting a 30ft ladder on top of a civic?

well this summer i'm running a painting business, the only problem is that i have a civic. Its going to be kinda of hard for me to get any other type of vehicle and the job is going to require transporting a ladder sometime each week. So do you guys think its possible to like put some cloths down on top of my roof, then strap a ladder to the top of the car? I don't want to dent it, or scratch it. But also, i mean would this even work while driving? ... i know how retarded its going to look but i mean i don't wanna be jacking up vehicles in front of me and behind me by accident with the damn ladder.

this might be the weirdest question ever asked on honda tech

please post pics when you do this.. I don't see why it wouldn't work, as long as you know where the ladder is. a roof rack might help

I like those racks. I'm going to look into getting one next year for snowboard season. I'm sick of a wet back seat. lol

where can you get those racks? and how much do they run?

lol, i'll definately take a picture for you guys this summer. but just out of curiosity, whats the length of a 2dr ej8? I'm just wondering because i figure the ladder is going to be either 15-20 ft long when its condensed, so i'm just wondering if its going to be longer than my car

you'll have to put bright flags on it and just hope you dont get your ***** busted by the cops.

also...why dont you just put a trailer hitch on and tow a small enclosed or exposed trailer??

picture this...and this would be [freak]ing hysterical. what if he left the ladder unfolded, standing upright on his roof and threw on some plywood to reduce wind resistance...lol i think that would be funny

i'm gunna scratch that plywood idea..

and about the cops bustin my ***** .. I mean what would be illegal about carrying a ladder on my car? ppl do it everyday, i know they don't with civics, but i mean technically wouldn't that be legal too?

on your civic the ladder will stick out too much..not so much that it's illegal but they might just bust your ***** about it, check to see that everything is tied down good, that you have a visible enough flag on it. having a trailer would be significantly easier to deal with though...can throw all your painting supplies in there without having to worry about your interior. but hey..do what you want....oh and the plywood spiel was a joke

even if i have it on a rack its still not secured properly? .... and also, my dad does have a trailer, we put our quad on it, but i dont think the trailer would be able to totally fit the ladder, would i just have it stick out of that?

and how much could my car tow anyway??

An EJ coupe is about 173 inches long... about 14 and a half foot. Those roof racks are fairly expensive. ... about $200 for a brand new setup like what I posted. I know they sell them at REI.

I'm sure you'd be fine if you used red flags and secured it to a rack very well.

Just buy a small beater truck. I can see this going pretty badly if you have to make a sudden move in traffic.. I already know what the headlines are going to say: "Young girl decapitated by 30ft ladder in horrific traffic incident"

Who gives a crap about how it will look. Get some cloth and ratchet straps and secure it..

..What im worried about is how are your customers gonna react when their painter/contractor shows up in a civic with a ladder strapped to the roof of a car.

How many paint brushes do you own?
Two?
Is the customer responsable for getting the paint?
Are you going to be putting painters tarps in your car also?
Sounds like a big PAITA to me.

i didnt think of it .. its an intership for a compnay called tuition painters. i hire college students, and we paint. They go thru a painting course, and i give people estimates and their estimate covers labor and equipment cloth. Everything is professional, drop cloths, taping, etc. Tomorrow i have to knock on peoples doors and see if they want estimates.. so hopefully i make some dough this summer
