Default Transmission Noise! Not gear grind!

I have a '99 EX 5-speed. There is a noise when I let out the clutch. It seems to go through the same series of "chattering whining" in every gear. If I let the clutch out in neutral it stilll makes the noise. As soon as I press the clutch pedal the noise goes away.

What do you think it could be?

If it's not the ISB, then it could be the bearing at the opposite end of the same shaft. BOTH were bad on my '99 D16Y7 tranny. The bearing...just the single *****...each one had pieces of it's 'shell' missing. So the ***** weren't smooth and shiny at all and it caused the car to shutter and make all sorts of nasty *** noises on take-off and getting up to speed.

Push in the clutch and the noise instantly died down. Not a hard fix, but two people (and a Helms) are needed.

I figured the throw out bearing would only make noise when the clutch is pressed in since that's when it's loaded...

Yeah, that's sounds very close to what I am experiencing. Any other takers?

How difficult is it to replace the bearings on the d series trans? My trans Y7 is also ISB whining.

When you don't have any pressure in a clutch pedeal it's usually the slave cylinder, pressure plate, or BADLY TOASTED throwout bearing (not likely).
