Default Transmission Install Tips or Tricks

Swapping out the transmission on my EJ Coupe with B-series. I do not have a engine lift, so I was looking for tips or tricks on gettting this thing bolted back up to the longblock.

Lean over the fender, pick it up, wiggle it on. Done it 6-7 times without any type of lift. It's not that hard, once you get the momentum it's cake. The key is to find the best places to grip it for you to lift it and be able to manuever it.

since my dad has a motorcycle and we do work in his garage, we have used his motorcycle jack on numerous occasions to lift trannies in and out..works beautifully

i think it is easier to take the motor/trans out as one, you got to pull the axles anyway. it might take a little longer but i think it is easier than just taking the tran out, plus much easier to bolt back up when out of the car

use a jack or something to hold the motor, take the tranny off, when you go to put it back on, put it on your chest and push it up, much easier than trying to lean over the fender of a jacked up car and lifting it into place, my buddy tried that and ended up staring at the tranny for 4 hours before I told him how to do it.

Sometimes I found it nessisary to turn the flywheel a bit to get the input shaft to slide on nicely, otherwise you end up fighting it. In that case a small prybar or flat head screw driver works nicely.

good luck... taking it out is cake. putting it back in is going to take you years. matching the clutch/flywheel teeth to the input shaft is FUN. (i think those are what you call it)

Well I already have the transmission alone pulled. I was planning on doing the "press off the chest" thing as soon as I can line up some help with the bolts. I have wasted 1/2 hours jacking around with the jack method, but by myself, I just can't make it happen. I will arrange for some help and probably just pick it up from the fender or press it from the floor.

picking it up is no problem at all with d-series, but b series are a little beefier and heavier...just get a jack and put a piece of plywood on the top so the tranny can sit then line it up and push it in...ive done it this way countless times and never had a problem...and ive always done it by myself because i dont like people in my garage
