Default Transmission guys HELP B4RA

Ok so I picked up a 98 civic lx last week. Has a d16y7 with a b4ra. Got it home. Did the work it needed and went to drive it knowing previous owner said something is up with transmission. So I found out rather quick.
Drove fine day 1. Drove 15 miles to and from store but shifted kinda hard.
Day 2 I warmed it up in the AM and went to bring my kid to school a mile away and got 1/4 from house and outta nowhere lost forward gears. Parked it there and had it towed home. Next day started and pulled it outta driveway and turned it around and parked it so I could get to tranny. Shifted hard but not BANGING. had forward gears.

Any ideas before I rip it out and swap/rebuild.
184, xxx on car. ASSUMING original tranny

ANY AND ALL IDEAS GREATLY APPRECIATED

CEL was on but pretty sure it was just for the disconnected o2 sensor.dont have a code reader to check and cant drive it to a parts store or garage to check it. d4 light is only on when its in d4

if d4 ever blinks while in gear that means transmission failure just like a CEL when it flashes. It means a bad thing. Usually those trans go out well before 150k all depends on how it was maintained. if u need to get around alil b4 u get a replacement. u can drain the pan and refill it with lucus stop slip. it actually was the only thing to work for me when my Autotragic went out on me. But that could also be a waste so don't old me to it sometimes it does sometimes it doesnt... when u loose all gears that's because once it gets hot the clutches loose grip and u loose all gears. a automatic works like a wet clutch setup. if one of the 8-10 disc burn out they all go out. if you gears all go out on u and u need to move it quickly . just shut the car off and let it cool off some it will move once the fluid as cooled. its definitely time to look for a replacement .

If you're really willing to dive into it, download/buy/borrow a factory service manual. It's extremely complicated, and the only "write-up" I would trust is the one directly from Honda.

There's a weird bearing puller you need to get the trans apart, it's a special Honda service tool. There's also a special tool to take the clutch packs apart, but that one isn't all that hard to make.

Jump the service connector and read the D4 blinking light codes.
