Default tranny wont go in gear

i just did a swap on my ek but it has a DA cabble tranny. its very dificult to put it into 1st and 2nd. when the car is off the tranny goes into gear just fine. before the motor was swapped the tranny shifted just fine so i dnt think its bad. can anyone gimme any ideas. maybe i gotta adjust the clutch cable

Sounds similar to when I had a clutch spring break on the pressure plate. It wouldn't go into gear at all with engine running but if switched off would go through them all fine.

I would try that and see if you get somewhere, does the car try and creep forward at all when in say 1st gear with engine running, maybe the clutch isn't dis-engaging all the way.

wait!
you put a cable trans in a hydro chassis, and now you are having problems?
seriously, the simplest way to fix it is find a hydro trans.
