Default Tranny gurus what is this bearing called??

Im in the middle of installing a new clutch/input shaft bearing and when i spin this bearing with the white grease on it it makes a bad sound. I think it needs to be replaced as well as the others but im not sure what its called. Its the one with the white grease smeared on it.

THE BEARING I REPLACED IS #15

Sorry, I don't know the name for it, but here is an exploded diagram of my car's housing. It just specifies the bearings by size.

11 is BEARING (28X60X15) , 12 is BEARING (80X40X18), 13 is BEARING (33X60X20). Good luck.

The picture is pretty dark on my computer, but is the diff right below that bearing?

If it is it would be one of the mainshaft bearings. On the other end of the mainshaft is the input shaft bearing, and at the other end is that bearing. I don't know that there is a specific name for it, just find the part number if you're going to replace it. Do it while you're in there if it makes any noise...trust me.

The one greased is one of 2 differential bearings, theres one on the bottom of the diff on the clutch housing side of the case.

The closest one (highest in the case) in the picture is your lower input shaft(mainshaft) bearings. The one below it with the metal retainer held over it is the lower countershaft bearing.

Better safe than sorry to replace them all while youre in there.

Any reason as to why you've opened it up? Noises, etc?

yeah my clutch was slipping and also I have symptoms of a bad input shaft bearing. I ordered one of those from honda but its different from the one thats in the picture with the white grease on it. Do you think a diff. bearing from a dx tranny would fit in an si tranny?

No. The DX uses 35mm ID x 70mm OD carrier bearings. The Si is 40mm x 80mm. None of the other ball bearings are interchangeable, except for the outer countershaft bearing.

Replace both your input shaft bearings and the 3 countershaft bearings while you're in there for added assurance.

You ordered the diff bearing, and those do no go bad often.

Common input shaft bearing symptom: clutch disengaged no noise, clutch engaged rattling/tapping. If thats what you had replace what I recommended, now is also a good time to replace any bad syncro's you may have as well.

It wouldnt hurt to inspect everything now while its apart and save the hassle of having to do it again. Planning to replace your rear main seal as well?

would the differential bearing have anything to do with the tranny whinning all the time but not when the clutch was pressed in? I thought there was only 1 input shaft bearing and I replaced it and all others sound fine when spun but not the differential bearing on top. Should I go ahead and get the top and bottom diff. bearings? again, would those bearings have the same symptoms as a bad input shaft bearing...im kinda on a tight buget here and cant afford to buy 3 or 4 differen bearings.

You should be able to clearly see which bearing cracked. The one you replaced, 15, is almost always the one to go. the two actually on the shaft should be done as well because the lower of the two will crack the same way as the input shaft bearing. If your diff bearings are making noise replace them both. #16

Diff carrier bearings only make noise when the car is moving. The mainshaft thrust bearing is most likely the problem if the countershaft bearings are good. It is the large bearing on the end of the mainshaft that goes into the tranny housing. Even though you are on a tight budget, now is the time to replace all of the ball bearings. There is obviously wear issues with multiple bearings, and it would really suck to get it back in the car and find out that there is still a problem.
